February events continue TRI-STATE - February may be the shortest
month on the calendar, but it's not lacking for events, as both a
fishing tournament on Lake Havasu and a sand drag competition in
Laughlin is set for this coming weekend. "We have everything from
little kids - which is our pee-wee class - to jeeps, the buggies and
top fuel dragsters that cover the 100 years in 2.5 second," said
Howard Tonguet with Other Guys Motorsports. The sand drags will take
place at the Laughlin Events Site. Meanwhile on Havasu it's the
Paralyzed Veteran's of America Grand National Championship fishing
tournament. "This is a new event for Lake Havasu that we recruited.
It's quite prestigious actually, the Paralyzed Veteran's
Association, of which even Sen. Bob Dole is a member. And in fact
we're waiting to hear if he won't make a guest appearance," said
Tourism Bureau president Bonnie Barsness. The fishing tournament
will be filmed for broadcast on ESPN.

Getting ready to hit the
water LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.
- Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan's efforts to secure two new
boats that will be used by volunteers comes at just the right time,
as the Sheriff's office prepares for Spring Break on Lake Havasu.
"Weather's been really nice lately, more boats are hitting the
water. We're going to be, very soon, beginning our waterways patrol
and keeping everybody safe on the lake," said Sheriff's spokesman
Jarrod Lyman. Mr. Lyman said the MCSO will review restricting access
to portions of the river and lake - such as the sandbars at
Blankenship Bend - on a case-by-case basis during Spring Break,
holidays and other busy boating times. The boats were offered at no
cost by Bullhead City Police.
