HOMICIDE
Desert Hills, AZ - Mohave County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the death of a Desert Hills man as a homicide. The victim was found by Sheriff’s Deputies in the 3100 block of Desert Hills shortly before 1:00 Wednesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Todd Levi Rodgers, 44, of Desert Hills. Sheriff’s Deputies found Rodgers in his residence in the 3100 block of Michael Drive in Desert Hills shortly before 1:00 Wednesday afternoon. The MCSO had received a call from a concerned neighbor, prompting a welfare check. The deputy was able see the victim through a window, and contacted medical personnel who declared Rodgers dead at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Sean Kenneth Foster, 21. Foster is the victim’s girlfriend’s son. He is described as a white male, 5’04", and 130 pounds. He has red hair, but may have a shaved head. He also has a large tattoo that runs across his chest and down his arms. Anyone who has seen him or may know his whereabouts is asked to contact the Detective’s Divisions of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE HITS THE WATER

Colorado River - Waterways patrol officers with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office hit the water in the start of the 2003 boating season Saturday as college students on Spring Break took to the river as well. The first week is generally slow, but "There were a fair amount of boats on the water over the weekend," said Sgt. Doug Schuster. "And for the most part, the people were well behaved," said Schuster.
Deputies were busy however, and issued a large amount of citations. "To date we’ve issued 12 citations for underage consumption," said Sgt. Schuster. "We’ve also made numerous other contacts, advising people of safety laws and so forth."
Many of the out of town visitors are unaware of boating laws in Arizona, including a stipulation that a vessel must have a personal flotation device for every person on board. "Not only does the device have to be on board, it must be easily available as well. It won’t do any good in an emergency if it’s under an anchor," said Schuster. "By keeping the life jacked handy, a needless death can be prevented."
Spring Break goes until April, but that doesn’t mean the boats will be off the water. "While we have boats on the water throughout the year, this is the start of our busy season, and we will be out there in full force enforcing boating laws and trying to keep everyone safe," said Sgt. Schuster

BURGLARY- Yucca Rest Stop

Yucca, AZ - A Mohave County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the Yucca rest stop at milepost 21 on Interstate 40 at about 8:30 Friday morning. According to reports, the suspect, identified as Dale Ross Sherry, 33, of Bullhead City, had reportedly burglarized a vending machine at the eastbound stop and stole quarters. The deputy contacted Sherry and took him into custody without incident. Sherry was booked into the District III Mohave County Jail in Lake Havasu City for the felony charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools. The Sheriff’s Office has contacted other agencies in the tri-state area for Sherry’s possible involvement in other vending machine burglaries, including several in Lake Havasu City earlier Friday morning.

Golden Shores Website Changes
Golden Shores- The Golden Shores website is undergoing some major changes. We have a new look. If you have not seen it lately, have a look.
Around April 1st the website will be moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. Freeyellow.com has served it's purpose and it is time to put the website on a space that is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Let's give Golden Shores some class and make our website look professional. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

G. S. FIRE DEPARTMENT

24th ANNUAL BBQ - On March 8th, 2003, the Golden Shores Fire Department had it's annual BBQ and Auction. Robert Graminski said the Fire Department wants to extend their gratitude and thanks to the community for their participation and support. "No taxpayer dollars have been used for the new bays being built" said Graminski. Graminski also said this year was successful with over $17,000 taken in. He said that, after expenses, they netted about $7,500. There were 943 people served. Most of the money was made from food, raffle, hats & tshirts, the auction, and donations. There were no problems on Saturday and everyone had a good time.

BUSTER JOHNSON AT CIVIC MEETING
G.S. Civic Center - On March 12th, 2003, Buster Johnson, County Supervisor, was at the Golden Shores Civic Association monthly general meeting. He expressed that the county has lost three big businesses so far this year because of the high cost of electricity for businesses from Citizen's Electric. The county has already lost Northstar Steele. "We work hard to get more big companies in here and the electric company blows us out of the water" said Mr. Johnson. One of the new businesses lost was Costco. He couldn't remember the others offhand. Mr. Johnson said he has met with Citizens Electric, but they refuse to consider lowering commercial rates to bring more business into Mohave County.

Road quality gets hearing
FT. MOHAVE, Ariz. - Fort Mohave residents and county officials, met this week to explore the feasibility of creating a 'road improvement' district. Mohave County Supervisor Tom Sockwell, R-Dist. 2, said they were invited by area residents. "We go out to just hand out information. No one is being forced to do anything. They will have to do this by petition and it would have to be fifty-one per cent of the people that live in those areas. The thing that we went out to do is just give the people the information and allow them to decide what they want to do," he said.

SCANNER RADIOS MISLEADING
Golden Shores Inn. - Wednesday night just before midnight the Fire Department received a call that someone had been cut at the Golden Shores Inn. It sounded as if there must have been a fight or something and "really exciting" to those who listen to their scanners. "NOT SO", said Joe Mellette, owner of The Inn. He said the night bartender, Tami, had accidently knocked over the fishbowl shaped tip jar and it broke with a piece hitting her foot, cutting a gash. The fire department responded and bandaged her, but did not transport her to a medical facility.
Oh well, not so exciting this time --- maybe next time...

Weekly Funny
Mugger?- Late one night in the Washington, D.C. area a mugger wearing a ski mask jumped into the path of a well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs.
"Give me your money," he demanded.
Indignant, the affluent man replied, "You can't do this - I'm a US Congressman!"
"In that case," replied the robber, "give me MY money!"

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to sit down and shut up????
