AMERICA AT WAR!
Let's Honor our Relatives -
As of this morning, March 27th, there have been 26 Americans
killed in the Iraqi conflict that began one week ago today. We
certainly hope you do not lose a loved one, but if you have
relatives, siblings, children, grandchildren, etc., that are in
Iraq, we would like to honor them in this publication. Please let us
know who they are and we will name them so the people of Golden
Shores can keep them in their prayers. We are also open to
suggestions as to how we should honor our relatives in Golden
Shores. Please contact us at this email address ys@goldenshores.net or call
768-1400.

STATE SEEKS SECURITY HELP
Parker, AZ - State
officials continue to step up efforts to guard against terrorist
attacks, specifically surrounding potential targets along the
Colorado River. "I actually placed a phone call to the deputy
assistant secretary of the Interior, for enforcement, and expressed
my concern that we have a serious increase in security at all the
Colorado River dams, in particular Parker, Glen Canyon and Hoover,"
said Chuck Blanchard, Arizona director of Homeland Security. A
security boom spanning the river is being installed downriver of
Parker Dam, but at present there is no such security device at Davis
Dam. "We do have plans to put booms up. I don't have a time schedule
for when that might happen," said Bob Walsh, spokesman for the
Bureau of Reclamation, who added that funding is a key component to
installing the protection devices. The Parker Dam security boom is
being installed this week.
TAX APPEALS STAND
Kingman, AZ - The
number of property tax appeals in Mohave County rose by just over 1
percent this year. Kingman had the most appeals for vacant land,
with 817, followed by Bullhead City at 125 and 57 for Lake Havasu
City. Meanwhile Bullhead City had the most appeals on developed
property at 524, followed by Kingman at 227 and Lake Havasu City
with 125 appeals.
NORTH STAR STEEL PURCHASED
Kingman, AZ - The
recently closed North Star Steel Plant just south of the city has
been purchased by Nucor Corporation, the nation's largest steel
manufacturer. The plant was purchased for $35 million and does not
include any of North Star Steel's material liabilities. TSN's calls
to Nucor were not been returned, but in a prepared statement, Nucor
officials said they would immediately begin "to find the most
effective solution for profitably operating the plant." No time
frame has been set for a plant re-opening.

LAKES & RIVER TO REMAIN AT
NORMAL LEVELS Colorado River Area
- River levels below Hoover Dam are expected to remain at normal
elevations through the spring and summer boating seasons. That's
according to Bureau of Reclamation spokesman Bob Walsh. "We won't
see any change in Havasu or Mohave, because we control those lakes
from Mead. Now what's going to happen to Mead, whether we're going
to get any additional water in there this year or not, I don't
know," Low snow packs have already dropped Lake Mead significantly
under normal elevation.

BULLHEAD CITY PATRIOTISM
Flags along Highway 95 -
American flags lining Highway 95, purchased by the Community
Pride Advocates for national holidays, are in place now and will
remain so during the Iraqi War. "This is the first time they've ever
been hung because of world events," said city spokesman Toby Cotter.
Perhaps the people of Golden Shores could come up with some ways
of displaying community pride in our country as well as our
community.
BOGUS SCHOOL SOLICITATIONS
Topock School, G.S. -
Last week we ran an article mentioning that some students were
soliciting money for various school activities. This article
information came from Mr. Warren at the Topock School. We sent an
email to Mr. Warren and have not received any additional response.
We apologize if this article offended anyone.
