THEY'RE HERE!
They're there, they're everywhere! - They're on the highways, the interstate, the hotels & motels, the local bars, they are here and they are spending money. But residents of the area have expressed concerns after last year's gang fight at a Laughlin casino. "We have not heard any specific violent threats," said Mohave County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jim McCabe. In preparation, McCabe said the number of deputies on patrol in Mohave County will be increased. Laughlin Law enforcement is reminding all attendees of the Laughlin River Run of some basic rules that are in force. "Please don't let the juveniles be out past 6 p.m. That's a big issue for us every year, because they will be taken into custody. They have to have a parent with them. I don't know why a parent wants them out past 6 p.m. in the biker environment anyway but they do," said Sgt. Chuck Jones with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. In addition no open cans or bottles are allowed on Casino Drive during the River Run, and Nevada's helmet law will be strictly enforced. Metro has also plans to conduct DUI checkpoints at various locations throughout Laughlin and Searchlight during the event.

Western Arizona Regional Medical Center's public information officer Ruth Padilla tells TSN they are prepared for the event. "Our substation here in Laughlin, under the direction of Lt. Smitley has been holding meetings with every entity involved with the Harley run at all for several months now. The hospital in its own preparation has met several times with its team and certainly I think we are very prepared for the possibilities." Last year during the River Run, the hospital was locked down as it cared for the victims of a shoot-out between rival outlaw motorcycle gangs.
It's not just Laughlin and Bullhead City that's impacted by the annual River Run, surrounding communities will see an influx of visitors over the next few days. "I'll let my personnel know that we are going to see a lot more two-wheeled riders coming through here this week and this weekend. And just be aware of the fact-of-the-matter that we will have a lot more visitors on motorcycles," said Hualapai Tribal Police chief Francis Bradley. About 90,000 people are expected to attend this year's event, which generates about $25 million to the local economy. Golden Shores doesn't have much in the way of attractions, so all we see, mostly, is just a LOT of motorcycles going thru with a LOT of noise. But it's still a sight to see if you've not seen them before.

CHAMBER DAY-IN-THE-PARK
G.S. - "Everyone who attended our third annual 'Day in the Park' last Saturday had a great time," said John Merell, president of the Topock/Golden Shores Chamber of Commerce. There were games being played and plenty of kites in the wind. The kids were off and running and all the eggs were taken from their hiding places. There was no reported injury from the egg hunters other than a few scratches from our natural habitat, the desert. After reporting last week that hot dogs and hamburgers were free, it was discovered on Saturday that there is now a charge for them. Maybe they will keep the public informed next year.

LEGISLATIVE VICTORY IN 2003!
www.azpolicy.org - Gov. Janet Napolitano on Friday signed into law HB 2498, which makes viewing pornography in the workplace an offense for which state workers can be fired. Surfing for porn on taxpayer time and with public computers was a problem identified by a number of public employees, and this new law will deal with it. A similar effort was defeated several years ago after a contentious debate in the Arizona House. The success of this year’s bill is remarkable. CAP initiated the bill and found a sponsor, Rep. Bob Robson, who worked successfully to gain bi-partisan approval. Even with a governor largely opposed to traditional values, it is possible to successfully promote good, pro-family public policy.

C.E.R.T. PREPARING FOR DISASTER
G.S. - In 1997, Hurricane Nora came up through Yuma, an oddity for Arizona, with an estimated impact to the local area of six inches of rain, which would have caused mass flash flooding and erosion "It was a late season storm that crept up from Baja California, Mexico," Mike Browning, Community Emergency Response Team training coordinator for Mohave County, said. "They (emergency agencies) thought it would follow the Colorado River, but ended up switching course and hitting Prescott. "Right after that event, we started reviewing our disaster response procedures, and we were also faced with an El Nino season, which evolves heavy rains." Mohave County and the Mohave Valley Fire District joined forces and created the Mohave County CERT program.
Golden Shores now has a good group of TRAINED people that meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The Golden Shores C.E.R.T. team now has a trailer and needs supplies. The list of supplies needed will be in the May issue of The Civic.

THEFTS UP IN G.S.
G.S. - Thefts are on the rise in Golden Shores. Vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles are up. Thefts from homes are up. One lady, on Wednesday, said she just went into the store for a minute and came out and her purse was gone. She had to cancel all her credit cards and is going to have to go get another drivers license and replace many other things. Our quiet little community has it's problems at times and right now is one of those times. Law enforcement says the best way to stop thefts is to keep your doors locked and lock your car. "But it's not suppose to be that way in Golden Shores." You're right! So we need to work together in our community to report any and all suspicious activities. It's a shame it has to be that way, but it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Right now would be a good time for the Neighborhood Watch to get back together and start watching our community again. But Neighborhood Watch needs a leader. Click Here- The Golden Shores website is undergoing some major changes. We have a new look. If you have not seen it lately, have a look.
Soon the website will be moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. Freeyellow.com has served it's purpose and it is time to put the website on a space that is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Let's give Golden Shores some class and make our website look professional. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

    Weekly Prayer
    - Dear Heavenly Father, your Word says that whatever We bind on earth is bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven. Lord, we loose a hedge of protection around our town this day, and the presence of all powers of Satan be bound, in the name of Jesus. Father, we also ask that You watch over our country, our people, and our homes, that they will be protected from all harm during these troubled times.
We ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
