FIRES IN GOLDEN SHORES
Four fires in less than a
week - 1. Last week there was a grass fire east of town which
consumed a trailer. Fortunately, no one was in the trailer, yet it
was determined that the fire was intentionally set and the trailer
was destroyed. 2. Ron Wilson, Broker and owner of Golden Shores
Realty, said he returned from a trip Saturday night only to be
awakened Sunday morning by a call that his office was on fire. He
said it was apparently arson. Someone had put something flamable
thru the mail slot on the front door. The call came into the fire
department Sunday morning around 5:40 a.m. A local lady was
reportedly driving by and saw the smoke. She went to the fire
department and found no one there, so she went to a phone and
called. By the time firefighters got there, there was already
extensive damage to the inside of the office. Work has already begun
to get the office rebuilt and should be ready for occupancy in a few
days. 3. On Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. the fire department
responded to Kayenta street where a fire had been started in a boat.
The fire spread to a 5th wheel trailer and then to the home
structure. Fortunately the fire department was able to get the fire
out before there was any major damage to the home, but the boat was
destroyed. 4. Wednesday night, again around 9:30 p.m., the fire
department responded to Pecos street where the fire had been started
on the front porch. Fortunately the fire department was able to get
the fire out before the fire got inside the home and before there
was any major damage to the structure. All the above fires
were intentionally set and are under investigation by the fire
department and the Mohave County Sheriff's office. Anyone having any
information about who set the fires should contact the fire
department or the sheriff's office.

ARSONIST AT WORK
Topock - Mohave County
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the 8800 block of
Polaris in reference to an Arson that took place late Thursday
night. According to reports, the victim stated that he was outside
oh his residence and observed a vehicle park infront of his
residence. The driver then moved the vehicle striking a post with a
no trespassing sign infront of his house. The driver the reportedly
exited the car and set the inside of the victim’s truck on fire. The
deputies observed fire damaged to the inside of the truck, and found
molding from a car near the post. The victim stated that the suspect
had gone to a nearby residence. Deputies contacted the subject at
the residence, identified as Robert James Dyer, 38, who matched the
victim’s description of the suspect. The molding found at the scene
matched the suspect’s vehicle as well. He was arrested without
incident and booked into the District II Substation in Mohave Valley
on the felony charge of arson.

MCSO SAYS BUCKLE UP
Tri-State - The Mohave County Sheriff's office has
announced plans to participate in the Buckle Up America campaign.
The Sheriff's office will run targeted patrols to verify that people
are using their seat belts, as well as ensure that children are in
proper safety seats. Program runs May 19 through June 1 and last
year's national campaign resulted in a 10 percent increase in seat
belt usage. More information can be found at the Sheriff's office
website, at www.co.mohave.az.us/mcso. The
California Highway Patrol will also conduct a seatbelt crack down.
Patrols will be out in force making sure everyone is buckled in
properly and all children are in appropriate safety seats. In
December, the last time the seatbelt checkpoints were operated in
San Bernardino County, CHP cited more than 1,500 drivers.
SNAKES ON THE PROWL
Mohave County - Warmer weather means more than
people are heading out and enjoying the sun - it means snakes are
out too. And officials are warning everyone to keep a close eye on
the area around them. The best thing you can do, if you do get
bitten by a snake, is just get yourself to a health care facility
where you can be assessed. Virtually anything else besides that can
be just as harmful - if not more harmful - than the snake bite
itself. Almost a dozen snakes have been spotted in the Golden Shores
over the past few days.
AIRLINE SERVICE GROWING
LAKE HAVASU CITY -
On Friday the city received word that a $200,000 state air
service grant was authorized. Combined with a federal grant, the
city has over $600,000 to increase air service. The grants are being
used to subsidize Mesa Airlines, the air carrier currently serving
the community. Mesa Air has announced plans to add an additional
round trip flight daily to Phoenix and two new round trip flights to
Ontario, CA. Members of the Tourism Bureau and Chamber of
Commerce heard about plans for expanded air service into the
community from Mesa Airlines' Crystal Houston. "I think people are
really excited about the Ontario market, even more excited than we
knew previously," she said. Ms. Houston also said a special July 4th
promotion, charging $76 round-trip to encourage the public's use of
the flights to Phoenix, will begin taking reservations Memorial Day
weekend.

A BIG SUCCESS!!!
G.S. - As most of you
know, I am the owner and publisher of this weekly E-News as well as
the Editor of The Civic for the past 3 years. The GSeXtra is the
result of an attempt to start a weekly paper in G.S. about 18 months
ago. That attempt failed because of the enormous cost of having it
printed by NewsWest (Mohave Daily). I checked numerous other
printing facilities and finally decided on email for now since most
people now have email. This has been a huge success! I have
people subscribing from all over and, as best I can tell, readership
is becoming greater than The Civic. The problem I have is there is a
need for someone to contact businesses for advertising. Businesses
are contacting me to run ads, but I have no one to go see
them. The Civic also has no one to contact businesses. The Civic
Association does not pay, as it is a volunteer organization. But
this publication can pay someone. So perhaps you would like to make
some extra cash by helping this publication and help the Civic
Association at the same time. If so, please contact me at 768-1400
or email ys@goldenshores.net.
