AND THEY MARRIED...
G.S. - Saturday, June 21st,
one of Golden Shores' favorite firefighters got married. Daughter of
Bob & Peggy Gulley, Summer married Tom Sattler of Minnow, South
Dakota. Tom is a 6th thru 8th grade coach at Laughlin High School.
They will continue to reside in Golden Shores and Tom will continue
to commute to Laughlin. After the wedding on Saturday, the main
wedding party rode the fire truck thru Downtown Golden Shores with
lights and sirens which ended at the fire station where they had
their reception. Our contatulations to Tom & Summer.

FLAGS AT HALF-MAST
G.S. - Several people have been asking around as
to why the flag at the fire department was at half-mast over the
weekend. The fire department reported that a firefighter died in a
brush fire near Flagstaff last week and the flag was in honor of
him.

NO FIREWORKS ! ! !
G.S. - The Golden Shores Fire Department is
warning that fireworks are ILLEGAL in Arizona. Because everything is
so dry this year, they are not at all tolerant of fireworks. Debbie
said, "first time, a warning, second time we call the sheriff." We
really don't want anyone to get hurt this year with fireworks.
Please be careful, no matter what you do.
BODY PART FOUND IN SEWER
Kingman - A human body part has been found at a
water treatment plant outside of Kingman, spurring an investigation
by Mohave County authorities. Detectives were called to the plant
after Kingman workers found a penis in a water filter, authorities
said Tuesday. Both the Mohave County Sheriff's Office and
Kingman Police Department are investigating, said Jarrod Lyman, a
sheriff's spokesman. "We don't have any leads at this point," Lyman
said. "We are investigating all possibilities," including foul play.
The discovery was made Friday at the Hilltop Wastewater
Treatment Facility, he said.
SHERIFF'S OFFICE GEARING UP FOR
HOLIDAY WEEKEND Colorado River - The Mohave County Sheriff's
Office is gearing up for what is anticipated as a busy holiday
weekend. Numerous boaters are expected on Lake Havasu for Memorial
Day; traditionally the busiest summer time holiday on Lake Havasu.
In anticipation of the influx of boaters, MCSO personnel have been
readying the fleet consisting of 10 boats that are permanently
stationed on the river. Personnel are also drawing up their focus
points for the weekend. "We will be on the lookout for the
standard infractions," said Sheriff Tom Sheahan. "We will be
strictly enforcing the OUI (Operating Under the Influence) laws as
well as looking for boaters operating their vessels recklessly,"
Sheriff Sheahan said. "We will also be patrolling Thompson Bay
looking for people operating above a wakeless speed in the no wake
zone. That is a big safety issue," Sheriff Sheahan said. Another
area of focus will be excessively noisy boats. "In addition to the
safety regulations that we will be enforcing, we will also be on the
lookout for these infractions. We hope all of the visitors to the
Lake Havasu City have a great and safe holiday weekend. As always,
safety is our number one goal," Sheriff Sheahan said.

FOOD CARE SHUTS DOWN
G.S. - In the July issue of The Civic there is a
notice that the Food Care program from St. Mary's in Phoenix has
shut off their delivery of food to Golden Shores. A letter to
Alberta Thrasher dated June 12, 2003, states they "will not be
delivering food out of state and to those that are in another food
bank's service area after June 30, 2003." They further stated that
"Westside Food Bank services the Mohave County area with the Care
Club Program, very similar to Food Care." However, Alberta Thrasher
said "That will not work for Golden Shores because 1. They deliver
on Tuesdays and I can't get help on Tuesdays, and 2. People cannot
pick up their food on Tuesdays." There is a good number of
people that have depended on the Food Care program for a long time.
In fact, some people actually live a good part of the month on their
Food Care distribution. So if you are some of those people, perhaps
you could volunteer to help with a Tuesday program rather than a
Saturday program. There is no need for the Food Share Program to
shut off those in Golden Shores who really need that food. In fact,
the pastor of the church, Bruce Daniel, has made mention several
times that the church is the one that should be handling Food Care
instead of the Civic Association. So there are some options
available. Someone needs to take charge and check them out.
TOPOCK CAMPUS CLOSED
G.S. - The Topock School has been trying to keep
the campus open so people can use the field, play basketball, etc.
However this past week we have: a table turned upside down and moved
out to the field, rocks and shoes thrown on the roof, vulgar
graffitti written on the concrete patio, and a broken window. These
things take time and money to fix or replace and comes directly out
of the budget, money that should be used to educate our
children. Sad........THE CAMPUS IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE
SUMMER. If you have observed any suspicious activities at the
school, please contact Mr. Agenbroad or Mr. Warren at 768-3344 or
the Mohave County Sheriff at 768-7055. Your assistance is greatly
appreciated!

UPCOMING
EVENTS
4th OF JULY ON A FRIDAY
National - The 4th of July, Independence Day,
falls on a Friday this year. --- A long holiday weekend!
VANDALISM, BURGLARY, THEFTS
RAMPANT IN GOLDEN SHORES G.S. - In case you haven't noticed, in the last
2 months there have been 3 major fires, 2 major burglaries, the
school has been vandalized twice, and several other incidents of
vandalism, burglary and thefts have been reported. This does not
include the ones that never get reported. Maybe it is because
school is out and possibly some kids have nothing else better to do
during the night. Or maybe it is people that are looking for
anything they can get their hands on that they can sell for a few
bucks so they can buy some groceries or pay their rent. Or maybe it
is "druggies" that will do just about anything to support their
habit. Whatever the case and whomever it is, our community needs to
become alert to what is going on and start doing something about
it. The author of this article and the editor of this paper has
attempted on numerous occasions to develop interest in getting
Neighborhood Watch started back up again. Frankly, there has been so
little interest that I am about to give up. All it would take is a
handful of people that would attend monthly meetings, elect some
officers, and have someone to conduct the meetings with an agenda to
develop and maintain the interest of those who attend. Then define
the purpose of Neighborhood Watch and the guidelines for keeping
watch on our neighborhood and what to do if they see a crime in
progress or suspicious activities. Then they would need to assign
volunteers to the duties. Neighborhood Watch is very active in
many communities such as ours around the country and many of them
work very closely with law enforcement. In fact, law enforcement is
a part of and promotes Neighborhood Watch in many
communities. Now you need to know what is going to happen if we
don't get Neighborhood Watch or a similar organization in Golden
Shores. The crime rate will continue to go up. The sheriff's office
will eventually be forced to go to the state which will force us to
become an incorporated township and hire a police force. I don't
think this is what the people of Golden Shores want. At the same
time, we do not want our crime rate to go up. The OLD
Neighborhood Watch is no more. The leaders of the OLD Neighborhood
Watch are no more. It is time to step up and start watching our
community. We don't need "wannabe cops". We need people that have a
sincere interest in the community and will do their part in helping
to prevent crime in our community. Some of you may know that the
sheriff's office cannot and will not put a full-time, or even a
part-time, patrolman in Golden Shores. They don't have the manpower.
Our criminals know this. This is the last time I will write about
this. I am putting it in both The Civic and the Golden Shores eXtra
publications. If I get the same response as in the past, which was
nothing, I'll not say anymore and let happen whatever happens. If
you are interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net or come
see me at 12929-C Oatman Hwy. Yancey Sexton

Weekly Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, We ask
you to bless all our friends and relatives reading this right now.
Show them a new revelation of Your love and power. Holy Spirit, we
ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there
is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt,
release a renewed confidence through Your grace. Where there is
dissension, Lord, give us a spirit of peace and unity. Bless our
homes, families, finances, our goings and their comings. We ask Your
forgiveness, Lord, for all the ways we have sinned against You.
Teach us Your forgiving spirit that we would forgive others who have
done wrong to us. We pray and ask these things in the Name of
Jesus. Amen
