QUIET WEEKEND ON RIVER
Colorado River - Mohave County Sheriff's Deputies patrolling the Colorado River over the three-day weekend are reporting a large amount of boaters but few violators. "There was a lot of traffic on the lake over the weekend, there is no doubt about that," said MCSO spokesperson Jarrod Lyman. "The real positive aspect of the weekend was that the majority of people were well behaved. There seemed to be a lot more families this weekend than we would normally see on other summer time holiday weekends," Lyman said. MCSO personnel responded to a total of seven accidents on Lake Havasu over the weekend. None of those accidents claimed any lives. "We are very happy with that aspect," Lyman said. "Especially with as many boats that were on the water." Three accidents did involve injuries, but none of those injuries were life threatening. The other four accidents involved only property damage. Deputies made 12 arrests for alcohol offenses over the long weekend. Five of those arrests were for operating a watercraft under the influence and seven for under age consumption. "A lot of the people we contacted on the water were aware of OUI laws. They made sure that the operator of the boat was sober, and that is very encouraging to see," Lyman said. One of the underage consumption arrests also resulted in felony drug. "A search of the personal watercraft the suspect was riding resulted in the deputy finding about two grams of marijuana in a storage compartment," Lyman said. "That subject was charged with felony possession." Deputies spent much of their time over the weekend issuing safety citations. A total of 72 cites were written by the end of the weekend. "That's what having a sufficient number of boats on the lake and proactive enforcement can do," said Lieutenant Randy Johnson, district commander for the Lake Havasu City area. "If we can stop these people right away and let them know what they are doing is unsafe, we can prevent a very serious accident before it happens," Lt. Johnson said.

A subject is taken into custody for being a minor operating a watercraft with the blood alcohol content. He was also charged with felony possession of marijuana after a search of the personal watercraft he was riding turned up about two grams of marijuana.

FIRE ON THE RIVER
Park Moabi - Late Friday afternoon a large smoke stack was seen south of Golden Shores. Upon arrival and investigation, the fire was located about 1/2 mile south of Park Moabi. A family was having a family reunion alongside the river and suddenly one of them noticed flames. According to local witnesses, the fire probably started from kids playing with fire or fireworks. Witnesses also said that San Bernardino employee Dick Dahn was the man that "saved the day" by being there with a county tractor to put dirt on the flames. The fire was extinguished with no known injuries.

SUSPECT APPREHENDED
Bullhead City - Creek left, Ramirez right.
One of the two suspects reported missing after a headcount at the Mohave County Jail Annex Monday afternoon was apprehended Friday night. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office received information that Andrew John Creek, 22, of Kingman, was at a motel in the 1800 block of Arcadia Plaza in Bullhead City. The MCSO contacted the Bullhead City Police Department with the information. BHPD officers were able to locate the suspect at the reported location and take him into custody. He was booked into the District II Jail in Mohave Valley on the felony charge of escape. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the whereabouts of the other subject, identified as Raul James Ramirez, 20, of Kingman. Anyone with information regarding his location is asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff's Office at (928) 753-0753.

BOAT - FIRE - SINKS - CALM
Lake Havasu City - No one was injured but a boat ended up at the bottom of Lake Havasu, near Windsor Bay, the result of a fire Friday morning. "The boat choked up, it lit it up and lit on fire. Yup, caught on fire and we bailed. Just gone," said boat owner John Kent. It was the second boat to go under water that day. A 56-foot houseboat suffered mechanical failure in Nautical Cove and partially sank before salvage crews were able to seal it and bring it to the surface. Beside boat sinkings things were relatively calm on Lake Havasu, according to police officials. Havasu Police made a few dozen minor arrests through Saturday.

FIREWORKS CAUSE BLAZE
Needles - The July 4th. fire near Needles, California, that destroyed almost 500 acres may have been set off by fireworks. The blaze sent smoke northward, making it visible in the Mohave County/Laughlin area just as the area's residents were preparing for the evening's fireworks display. Local 911 lines were flooded with calls from people worried about the smoke. Several agencies were involved in getting the fire under control with firefighters on the scene for over 30 hours.

BECKY IS BACK!
G.S. - Dear Beloved Friends and Family:
First of all thank you for your concern & prayers. I had quite a scare regarding my health. I discovered this morning that the biopsy came back and here are the results: I have a cancer but it is slow growing. It will be removed in a few weeks. The Doctor assures me that everything will be fine after that, just keep the check up every few months.
Sooo, after talking with my Broker, I will be working in Golden Shores only. I am glad to be back at work again.
Thanks again for your love & prayers,
Becky Crabtree

SHERIFF EARNS HONORS
Kingman - How the Mohave County Sheriff's office assists crime victims is being touted as the model for the entire state. An Attorney General's office survey of law enforcement agencies and how they handle victims' rights resulted in the MCSO and Peoria Police Department as the two top agencies, and their policies and procedures are being recommended to other law enforcement offices. In a prepared release, Sheriff Tom Sheahan said having his department's policy cited for excellence is "a credit to the department's administrative staff that worked many hours on drafting it."

ATF RAIDS GUNS IN MOHAVE
Mohave County - A two year undercover investigation by state police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, swept into Mohave County Tuesday in a series of early morning raids and arrests. ATF spokesperson Marti McKee said their agents targeted suspects from Kingman to Fort Mohave. "At Fort Mohave there were six or seven 'search and arrest' warrants. There were probably another six or seven in Bullhead, Golden Valley, and Kingman. So there was quite a bit of activity up here that's related this state-wide investigation into illegal trafficking of firearms, illegal trafficking of explosives, bomb making, illegal trafficking of drugs, and there are some murder-for-contract charges," said McKee. The main focus of the raid was Hell's Angel's gang members and associates.

FIREMEN WARN OF HIGH TEMPS - RESTRICTIONS

Tri-State - The danger of rising temperatures and closed vehicles was driven home dramatically this week by Larry Tunforss, Public Information Officer for the Bullhead City Fire Department. Tunforss said, "I took an oven temperature gauge and put it inside my fire department van. The temperature outside the van was a 110. The temperature inside the vehicle rose to 160 degrees! That tells you that the inside of a vehicle is no place to leave any human or any animal!" Tunforss said that if you must leave your passengers in the vehicle for any length of time, keep the air-conditioning operating.
The rising risk of wildfires and continuing high winds has prompted the Bureau of Land Management to put many areas under fire restriction. Starting at 6p.m. this Friday, no open fires are permitted in the Hualapai, Black and Cerbat mountains and other BLM acreage. That means no charcoal or wood barbeques and no campfires. Smoking is restricted to camper-trailers, motor vehicles, indoors or stopped in a clear area of at least 10 feet in diameter. BLM land, in Mohave County, amounts to close to 500 million acres.

I JUST LOVE BLONDE JOKES! -
A blonde was speeding in a 35 mile per hour zone when a local police cruiser pulled her over and walked up to the car. The police officer also happened to be a blonde and she asked for the blonde's driver's license.
The driver searched frantically in her purse for a while and finally said to the blonde policewoman, 'What does a driver's license look like?'
Irritated, the blonde cop said, 'You dummy, it's got your picture on it!'
The blonde driver frantically searched her purse again and found a small, rectangular mirror down at the bottom. She held it up to her face and said, 'Aha! This must be my driver's license' and handed it to the blonde policewoman.
The blonde cop looked in the mirror, handed it back to the driver and said, 'You're free to go. And, if I had known you were a police officer too, we could have avoided all of this.'

    Weekly Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on let me stand.... words we sing but oh Father, how many of Your Children are so tired weak and worn. Lord we ask You to refresh us today by Your Holy Spirit. Speak new life to our souls, renew our energies. Father we need a brand new touch from You. We are going thru the motion of living and we need You to show us Your way.
Father we have called upon You, now we ask You to answer us and show us great and mighty things we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3). We seek You daily asking to learn more of You and grow up in You in all areas of our lives. Reveal Your heart to us that we might have knowledge of You in a way we have not. The times ahead are dark Lord we know that You alone are our source. Guide us into Your truth, without You we will not make it.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
