SMOKEY MORNING
Near Avi Resort - Many of us awoke this morning,
if not during the night, to a lot of smoke in the air. About 1,000
acres of Tribal land south of the Avi Resort continues to burn after
a lightning strike late Thursday afternoon set off a brush fire that
monsoon winds quickly whipped into a raging blaze. "The fire's name
is Lightning, no current estimate of containment. We've currently
got on 58 personnel with seven engines. Personnel coming from the
Mohave Valley, Needles and Fort Mohave and Golden Shores Fire
Departments. One residence has been lost as well as a couple of out
buildings. There is one residence that's threatened but structural
protection is in place," said Mike Behrens of the Lower Colorado
River Interagency Fire Management Group. A call has gone out for a
strike team with Type 6 engines and two Type Two-20 person hand
crews. Authorities closed the Needles Highway Wednesday evening. The
blaze can be seen from Bullhead City and Route 68 from Kingman and
smoke can be smelled as far south as Lake Havasu City.

GOV NAPOLITANO IN LHC
Lake Havasu City - Gov. Janet Napolitano is in
Mohave County this week, with a quartet of stops in Lake Havasu City
Thursday. Things began at 1 p.m. with a speech before business
leaders at the London Arms Pub, followed by a news conference where
she will present city officials with the WIFA best financial
assistance award for the city's work on sewering the community.
After that, Gov. Napolitano will head to the Community Center at
2:45 p.m. to speak with senior citizens about her Pharmacy Discount
Program. After meeting with seniors, the governor will wrap things
up with a stop at the local Democratic Party headquarters.
FT. MOHAVE TRIBE - CONNECTING
Mohave Valley - Mohave County has indicated it
is exploring Vanderslice Road as a possible second north-south route
from Mohave Valley to Bullhead City. The Fort Mohave Indian Tribe
owns land in the area and the Tribe's Business and Administration
manager Gary Goforth said they are open to right-of-way discussions.
"We've had some preliminary conversations with them, but I don't
know that we've really gotten down into the details. But, as I say,
I'm sure that, when it really comes right down to where we're ready
to do something, why we're ready and willing to do our part," Mr.
Goforth said. Connecting the road to the Bullhead Parkway has also
been discussed.

MORE DRUGS IN G.S.
G.S. - While patrolling the Golden Shores
trailer park early Monday morning, a Mohave County Sheriff's Deputy
came upon a subject sitting in his vehicle. The deputy attempted to
contact the subject, who appeared to hide something in the passenger
side floorboard when he saw the deputy approach. The deputy asked
the subject to exit the vehicle and he was identified as Jeremy John
Chamblee, 27, of Golden Shores. The subject reportedly kept reaching
for his pockets despite being told to keep his hands in sight. The
deputy patted the suspect down for weapons and he was found to be in
possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and a
further search located about 8 ½ grams of marijuana in his pocket.
The deputy located about 10 zip lock bags containing methamphetamine
totaling about 3 ¼ grams in the passenger side floorboard of the
vehicle. Chamblee was arrested without incident and booked into the
District II Jail in Mohave Valley on the felony charges of
possession of drugs for sale, possession of dangerous drugs,
possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

4 TEXANS KILLED ON I-40
Needles - Four people
died, the result of a rollover accident on I-40 this weekend. "The
driver allowed the vehicle to drift into the center divider for
unknown reasons. The driver swerved the vehicle across both lanes of
traffic, and onto the dirt adjacent to the right shoulder. The
driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times
before coming to rest on its left side," said Officer Diaz with
California Highway Patrol. Pronounced dead at the scene was the
driver Loc Phuoc Nguyen, 38, and Du Dinh Bu, 79. Two others died
after being transported to area hospitals, Minh Triang Do, 70, and a
5-year-old child. Two others - including a 6-year-old - suffered
serious injury and remain hospitalized. All six of the vehicle's
occupants were from the same Fort Worth, Texas family.
BOAT ACCIDENT TAKES FOOT
Colorado River - A
Vista, Calif. man suffered a serious injury to his foot in a single
vessel accident on Lake Havasu Friday. According to Mohave County
Sheriff's reports, Rudolph Padilla, 31, was ejected from the boat
when it struck the wake of another craft. "The reason we're not
saying for certain whether or not it was the propeller that caused
the injury, it's just due to the logistics of it. He was ejected off
the side of the boat which means the aft of the boat would have to
come around somewhat before he would have been struck by the
propeller. But given the accounts given by the witnesses, that may
have been what happened," said Sheriff's spokesman Jarrod Lyman.
Padilla was treated at Havasu Regional Medical Center and released
Saturday. The Sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the
incident.

 Kingman - Sgt.
McNally catalogues firearms held for evidence at the Mohave County
Sheriff's Office. MCSO personnell are sorting through an estimated
1000 handguns, rifles and shotguns as the department prepares to
move into the new facilities in September.
BODY PARTS NOT REAL
Kingman - Testing of the penis found last month
in the Hilltop Wastewater Treatment Plant has been completed. "It
appears to be latex rubber; artificial," said Mohave County medical
examiner Dr. Don Nelson. Sheriff's officials say there are no plans
to continue an investigation into how the prosthetic appendage found
its way to the wastewater plant.
FIRE WARNINGS
CONTINUE
|
G.S. - Due to the
extreme heat we are experiencing this year, the Golden Shores
Fire Department warns that you should be especially cautious
by not having fires in your | yard without a burn permit. Use extreme
caution with fire ignitors, such as cigarettes and matches. Be very
cautious with your vehicles. Do not leave pets, children, or even
yourself, in cars without air conditioning. Even with the windows
down, the heat still rises very quickly inside a car sitting still.
Be sure to drink plenty of water. Do not drink alchohol or sugar
sodas during the day as they cause more hydration. And
Remember, if you are hot and you stop sweating, you might be
approaching a heat stroke. Pay attention to the way you feel. If you
need a cool place, go to the Community Center or the VFW and cool
off. Feel free to call the fire department if you have any questions
or are experiencing any problems.

community. Watch here for details.

Weekly Prayer
Do you know that Jesus, in your
lifetime, reaches out to everyone, one way or another? This is one
of the times that He is trying to let you know how you can accept
His love for you. When we all stand before God, He will show
everyone those times that He tried to show His love for you. This
will be one of those times and we will have no excuse for ignoring
this message of His love. If you want to learn how to receive His
love for you, Click
Here. Dear Heavenly Father,
Father, this is the confidence that we have in Jesus, that if we
ask anything according to Your Will, You hear us. If You hear us,
then You have already answered. Lord help us and our friends to
listen to that still small voice and accept that wonderful love You
have for us. We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus.
Amen
