URGENT - BLOOD DRIVE
Kingman - Another drive has been announced at the Wellness Center at Kingman Regional Medical Center. Blood supply in the Tri-State area has been extremely low this summer, with an increased number of river accidents and emergency medical procedures. Two recent incidents - a triple aneurysm emergency in Bullhead City and a kidney procedure that suffered serious complications in the Las Vegas area - combined to use 70 units of Type O blood. The Kingman drive will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 5-6.

INMATE FAILS TO RETURN
Lake Havasu City - Mohave County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for a Lake Havasu City man after he failed to return from his court ordered work release Saturday afternoon. Douglas William Brooks, 36, was serving 120 days for unlawful use of a means of transportation out of the Lake Havasu City Police Department. Part of Brooks' sentence was to report to his place of employment at a plastering company each morning and report back to the District III Jail in Lake Havasu City each afternoon. Brooks did not check back in at the jail at his assigned time Saturday. He is described as a white male, 5' 9" tall, weighing 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff's Office at (928) 753-0753.

SKIER HAS HEART ATTACK

No injuries were evident and witnesses said he appeared fine until about 15 minutes later, when he complained of having trouble breathing. Who's Buying Luxury Homes In America?
RISMEDIA, July 30-Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation has released a new profile of million-dollar-plus homeowners culled from a study it conducted of its top luxury home sales associates. The top findings of the Coldwell Banker Luxury Homeowner Profile are as follows:

  • 31% are cash buyers
  • 68% are considered "new money"
  • The #1 profession among these home buyers is classified as "large business executives"
  • 66% are from the "baby boom" generation
  • 88% are married
  • Designer kitchens are the top priority
  • 89% request a four-or five-bedroom home
Coldwell Banker sales associates found that other top professions were:
doctor, banker, lawyer, stockbroker, actor, musician and inventor.
Which proverb is true: "Less is more," or "bigger is better?" When it comes to number of rooms and square footage, it seems that size is relative.

    FLAG AT HALF-MAST
National - Numerous people have asked, "Why is the flag at half-mast or half-staff?" We asked the postmaster, Bonnie Comeau, and she said the past weekend was the 50th anniversary of the end of the Korean conflict. Then on Tuesday she was told to keep the flag at half-mast in memory of Bob Hope who died Sunday night at the age of 100. Bob Hope served the military by going many places overseas and entertaining our troops. He heightened the moral of our troops on many occasions. Bob Hope was perhaps the greatest male entertainer of all time.

    NO PAY - NO REGISTRATION
Arizona - Not paying outstanding traffic tickets in Arizona could put the brakes on your vehicle's registration. The state's Administrative Office of the Courts and Motor Vehicle Division are aiming a developing enforcement plan at drivers who don't pay their traffic fines. The plan will encourage delinquent motorists to pay up, however failure to do so would result in having the vehicle owner's registration blocked. The program could be implemented as early as this fall.

    SAW BLADE GOES THRU WINDOW
Houston - Talk about cutting it close. Last Friday two women escaped injury when a 20-inch-diameter concrete-cutting saw blade crashed into a rear window of their S-U-V. The vehicle was struck while the mother and daughter were driving on a busy Houston freeway. The ten-pound blade ended up wedged into the vehicle. Now police are trying to figure out where the blade came from -- and who owns the 600-dollar piece of construction equipment.

    FIRE WARNINGS CONTINUE (R)
G.S. - Due to the extreme heat we are experiencing this year, the Golden Shores Fire Department warns that you should be especially cautious by not having fires in your
yard without a burn permit. Use extreme caution with fire ignitors, such as cigarettes and matches. Be very cautious with your vehicles. Do not leave pets, children, or even yourself, in cars without air conditioning. Even with the windows down, the heat still rises very quickly inside a car sitting still. Be sure to drink plenty of water. Do not drink alchohol or sugar sodas during the day as they cause more hydration. And Remember, if you are hot and you stop sweating, you might be approaching a heat stroke. Pay attention to the way you feel. If you need a cool place, go to the Community Center or the VFW and cool off. Now with the monsoon storms coming into the area, remember the wind and lightning are very dangerous. Be cool! Feel free to call the fire department if you have any questions or are experiencing any problems.

    NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
G.S. - There has been great response to the articles about Neighborhood Watch. We now have a good list of people that intend to participate. A meeting date will be set soon. If you are interested and haven't already called, please call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. Watch here for details.

    FOOD SHARE COMING
G.S. - Food Share, which was shut down the end of June, is likely to make a comeback. The men of the local Baptist Church are working on a program, but we recently learned that Alberta Thrasher, local director of Food Care, is working hard to find a driver and a truck to go to Phoenix and pick up the food from St. Mary's Foodbank. The reason Food Care shut down is because St. Mary's will no longer deliver to this area. So hopefully in September there will be food again for those who need it and want it. Watch here for details.

  • BUZZING BOX AT POST OFFICE
U.S.P.S. Georgia - A mail carrier Wednesday came across a vibrating package that led to the evacuation of the post office and the surrounding area. A letter carrier noticed the package at about 10:30 a.m., because it was “giving off a sound of some sort,” according to Michael Miles, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service. The package aroused suspicion from the carrier and his supervisor, who carried the priority mail out into the parking lot and called police. The ATF arrived, shut down the highway and used a high-tech robot to pick up the package and X-ray it. “The X-ray showed some kind of wires and something else,” Miles said. “It’s not school supplies.” Once the package was opened, authorities found it contained adult toys including a vibrator and massage oil. Through the X-ray, with the wires and the large plastic pieces, it looked like a bomb. “Since these are all legal items, we won’t be doing any follow-up investigation,” Huggins said. But the unusual incident was enough to leave officers laughing, according to Huggins.

Hello Bob, this is your father. I have a computer question. Can I tape a movie from cable TV, then fax it from my VCR to my CD-ROM, then email to my brother's cellphone so he can make a copy on his neighbor's camcorder?
