GOLDEN SHORES
BUSINESS GETS FACELIFT

G.S. - Some Golden Shores businesses have new owners and some are getting cleaning and remodeling. Mike Thornten, owner of Jerri's Pizza, has purchased the Golden Shores Inn from Joe Mellete. Mike is remodeling "The Inn" and plans to reopen on October 1st, at which time Jerri's Pizza will close. The Route 66 Trading Post has sold the building only and all merchandise is on sale for half price. The rumor is the new owner plans to put in a Dollar Store. Desert Hardware has been going thru cleaning and remodeling. Manager, Dwayne Chipps, said they are cleaning up the store and putting merchandise where people can easily see what it is. In the past merchandise and shelves have always been dirty and that will no longer be the case. Dwayne and wife, Ginny, also manage the Golden Shores Trailer Park which they say is being cleaned out of undesirable and non-paying residents and will be a nicer place to live. The storage building at the Shell River Stop appears to be almost finished. Altogether appears to be a new look for Golden Shores, making this a nicer place to live.

RAINS BRING WATER

Sacramento Wash - On Wednesday the Sacramento Wash was running with water from Kingman / Golden Valley areas. Mohave County road crews were there making sure the water didn't destroy the road. It seems that most of the rain this season has found it's way around us with less than 2 tenths of an inch in G.S. Forecasters are saying that today, Thursday, is the last chance of rain we will have for a while as upperloft winds are taking the moisture eastward. Maybe those who only have evaporative coolers will be able to dry out and cool off for a while.

HOLIDAY ON THE RIVER
Colorado River - Mohave County Sheriff’s Office personnel are expecting to see heavy traffic on the river over the Labor Day holiday weekend. "We expect the crowds to be similar to Memorial Day Weekend," said Lt. Randy Johnson, District Commander for the Lake Havasu City area. Memorial Day is traditionally the busiest holiday weekend on the water. Lt. Johnson also said that the department will be patrolling the extant of Lake Havasu from the south basin on up into the river. "Access to the Sandbar will be restricted starting Friday through approximately noon on Monday," Lt. Johnson said. The Sheriff’s office began restricting access to Blankenship Bend - known as the Sandbar - north of Lake Havasu, after extensive crowds began converging on the area, creating a navigational hazard on the much-used waterway.

THE APPRAISAL PROCESS When you sell your home and the buyer is securing a new loan in order to purchase the property, the buyers' lender requires a licensed appraiser to estimate the market value of the property to show the lender that they are making a prudent decision lending the buyer the money to buy your home. Once the buyer begins the new loan application process, the lender will order the appraisal. In order to estimate the market value of your house, the appraiser will research homes which have sold in your subdivision and/or your immediate area. Appraisers prefer to use sales which have occurred within the past 6 months and are similar to your is in regards to square footage, year built and amenities. The bottom line is the: If you maintain your property in good condition and price it right, you most likely will not have any problems getting the appraisal. The lender determines what the value is, so If you price your home higher than the fair market value the buyer will have to increase the down payment to cover the difference.
Becky welcomes your questions and comments.

BLOOD DRIVES CONTINUE
Tri-State - A series of blood drives are being staged across the Tri-State area the week of September 11, in honor Freedom Day and the effort by all Americans following the terrorist attacks. "What we'd like to see is a continued effort from the community to come out and donate, similar to what we saw after September 11," said Kase Martis with United Blood Services. UBS routinely imports about 3,000 units of blood to cover Tri-state area needs each year. Drives will be held at Needles High School Gym on Monday, September 8, Mohave Generating Station in Laughlin on Tuesday, September 9, and at Southwire in the Kingman Industrial Park on Thursday, September 11.

MAN BITTEN BY GILA MONSTER
Tucson - Rural/Metro District Chief George Good got a first yesterday - a call about a Gila monster attack. "In my 16 years, I've never heard of that," he said last night. An 18-year-old man hiking near the Sabino Canyon Visitors Center was bitten by the Gila monster around 4 p.m. yesterday, Good said. He said the call to paramedics came about 40 minutes after the man was bitten, so the venomous lizard was not located. The unidentified man was vomiting and taken by ambulance to Tucson Medical Center, Good said. It was unclear whether his vomiting was due to the bite or another reason, he said. No other information on the man or his condition was available last night.

MEETING SET FOR NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
G.S. - A meeting date has been set on Thursday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the G.S. Fire Department. We have had good response to the articles in this paper and The Civic and we have a good list of people that intend to participate. We hope to see you there. If you are interested and haven't already called, please call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

FOOD SHARE NEWS
G.S. - Food Share, which was shut down the end of June, is making slow progress. The men of the local Baptist Church are working on a program. We recently learned that Alberta Thrasher, local director of Food Care, has basically given up. Her health is not good and she is tired. It is time for someone else to take over. The men of the church really want to do this, but it is going to take a little more time. Watch here for details.

COMPUTERS NOT FOR EVERYONE
G.S. - I love computers and I believe that everyone should be part of the technology revolution. But I don't think PCs are the right platform for everyone because of their high complexity level and because of the harm that not understanding these systems can cause users. The fact is, there are plenty of users with similar basic needs. However, they're using a tool that is much too powerful and dangerous for these tasks. If you are not willing or capable of learning all the aspects of controlling your computer, it can do harm to you and to others. Lets face it: Almost 70% of U.S. households and 80% of U.S. businesses have computers and they have almost become a necessity today. But modern computers are much too powerful and potentially dangerous for people who can't learn how to secure and manage them properly. However, there's no reason why a safer, easier, capable and less expensive system shouldn't be available for users with basic needs. Wal-Mart sells a basic little email computer for $99 with www access for only about $9 per month. You can get one with a word processor for around $200. So don't overload yourself or your grandmother with technology. You may not be able to handle it.

    Weekly Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, We thank You for holding out Your hands to us. For giving us Your strength to make it thru the day, You are so wonderful to us and we are all too blind to see sometimes. You are Jehovah, Lord God Almighty and You care for us watchfully. You love us so much You never sleep. We are never out of Your sight. When we are not "feeling" You close we only have to search us to see who moved. Thank You Lord for being all we need in this life. Lord, give us a greater understand of who and what you are that we would be more in tune with what You would have us to be.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
