TODAY IS 9-11
A Day of Remembrance

G.S. - At 8:30 a.m. this morning there was a remembrance ceremony, led by principal Brett Agenbroad, at the Topock School on the baseball field. The State Department warns of "increased indications" that al Qaeda is preparing attacks on U.S. interests to coincide with 9/11 anniversary. Today marks two years since the tragedy of September 11. Most of us will experience a mix of emotions today, such as sadness, fear or anger. Letting these emotions out is not only important, but healthy when done in a positive manner.
Try to turn negative emotions into positives today. Instead of feeling and acting on anger or resentment, use your energy to tell loved ones how much they mean to you, how they touch your life. Look up places where you can start to volunteer your time and help those in need. Think of what your strengths are, and how they can help others.

NEWS OFFICE CLOSES
G.S. - The NEWS office, across from the post office, has closed. The editor, that's me, has moved back home. There just isn't enough walkin business to even pay the rent. It seems the office has been a good place to stop and chat, and a convenient place to drop off ads and payments, but I can do that at home, on the phone or via email. Right now my phone is out of order until I get moved, but if you need me, call 768-9175 or send an email. You are welcome to come by my house anytime or I'll come see you.
I have been the editor of The Civic for over 3 years now and I get nothing for doing it. I just simply cannot keep up the rent at the office.
THIS E-NEWS WILL CONTINUE! The response I've had to this publication, since it started back in February, has been tremendous. Our subscriber list is growing fast and our advertising base is about to expand. We have lots of news to print and I would still like to put this publication in actual print to be distributed around town, but I can't do that when my office is losing money.
So keep reading, keep forwarding this to your friends and relatives, and keep advertising. As soon as I can afford a nice big color laser printer you will see a nice Golden Shores newspaper in print.
Thanks to all of you.

FIRE ON HIGHWAY
G.S. - Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. the fire department responded to the scene of a fire about a mile north of the Topock Marina. Some brush along the east side of the road had caught fire. Personel on the scene said they had no idea what started the fire. All flames were extenguished without incident.

HOOVER DAM BYPASS GETS FEDERAL FUNDS
Washington D.C. - A bi-partisan effort by two Tri-State area senators will bring $7 million to the area. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., secured additional federal funding for the Hoover Dam Bypass through Congressional approved GARVEE Bonds. That brings the federal commitment to more than $93 million of the $234 million project.

COOLING OFF!
G.S. - After an extended hot and humid season this year, it is finally cooling off. The temperatures are down, the humidity is down, and the dewpoint is down from over 70° to around 40°. Swamp coolers are working again. In fact, the mornings have been quite cool this week. The forecast is for warmer temperatures this weekend, but not the extreme heat and humidity like we had in July and August.
The recent thunderstorms left heavy rains and destruction in some around the county, but Golden Shores is still just Golden Shores with only a trace of rain and not much damage from the storms. Maybe we're lucky, huh?

CREDIT SCORES FACE THE LIGHT
Article from REALTOR Magazine 9-03.
Federal Legislation That Would Give Consumers Improved Access to Their Credit scores and the role those scores play in mortgage and insurance decisions passed a hurdle this summer. The U.S. House Financial Committee in late July passed the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (H.R.2622), requiring credit reporting agencies to provide a free credit report annually to consumers at their request. The bill would also require credit bureaus to notify consumers when negative information is added to their credit files. Mortgage lenders would have to give loan applicants their credit score and an explanation of the score and could no longer just advise them where to obtain the information. More: Click Here.
Becky welcomes your questions and comments.

LAUGHLIN GETS SAN ANTONIO RIVERWALK DESIGNER
Laughlin, NV - Public and private funds are coming together to hire a very experienced firm when it comes to developing a 'river walk' in Laughlin. Rialto Studios, the firm that developed the San Antonio Riverwalk, and is currently in the conception stage for the Laughlin Riverwalk, is facing a potential benefit from having a public/private development.
"What they have been hired to do is give us something that's called '10 percent design documents.' So the community will take the concepts and go from there," said Jo Elle Hurns, Laughlin Chamber executive director. "We've got some private property along the river where the casinos are, that may be glorified. And completely developed from the (Laughlin) Bridge, north, to Davis Dam."

CIVIC ASSOCIATION GENERAL MEETING 9/10

G.S. - Buster Johnson gave a county update at the meeting on Wednesday. Alberta Thrasher's resignation was presented. It was also announced that the rest of the executive board will no longer run for re-election. Also some of the regular board members have resigned and others term has expired. Therefore, this year will present the opportunity for a whole new administration of the Civic Association. A nominating committee was elected at the meeting to seek new candidates. It is hoped that some people will step up that want to take the bull by the horns and make some good things happen this coming year. If you are interested in being on the Civic board, please call the Civic Center. The nominations will be made known in October, the final vote will be in November, and the new officers will take office in December. For information call the Civic Association at 768-2121.

FOOD SHARE NEWS
G.S. - Food Share, which was shut down the end of June, is making better progress. The men of the local Baptist Church met Monday night and are considering a program, but a final decision will not be made until next month's meeting. "There is a lot of work involved in a program like this and we want to make sure we can handle it," said Pastor Bruce. The men were asked to pray about it this month and at the next meeting a final decision will be made. Watch here for details.

ARIZONA CAVE MAN EVICTED
Flagstaff - A man was evicted from an Arizona cave he had lived in for 11 years, after pleading guilty to using a national forest for residential purposes. Thomas Crawford had a bed, books and clothes arranged on hangers, along with pots and cutlery for cooking in his cave in the Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona. He was arrested Friday after a Flagstaff resident reported a suspicious camp. Crawford pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Monday and was sentenced to one year of probation and banned from the forest. He told Forest Service officials he would go to Flagstaff every week or so for supplies and water. Sometimes, he would work in town. Crawford, accompanied by Forest Service officials and a reporter from the Arizona Daily Sun newspaper, was allowed to remove his possessions after he was released from jail Tuesday. "As you can see, I don't have a TV or anything," he said. "I've got the sky, the wind, the rain, the canyon wrens...This is a beautiful mountain. You could explore it a lifetime."

    Weekly Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, There is a empty place in the hearts of so many people and and they are looking to fill that place. They search everywhere for that one thing that satisfies. Lord we know that one thing is Jesus. Without Him we can do nothing and can be nothing. In ourselves we are limited but Your Word says we are Your righteousness IN Christ Jesus. Help us to walk in Him and look to His example for living. We come seeking more of You. Enlarge our vision of what we can be as we walk with You.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
