EIGHT YEAR OLD GIRL FALLS OFF BOAT - RUN OVER

Topock - Last Saturday around 6:00 p.m. the fire department responded to a call from Topock. The driver of the boat, according to San Bernardino sheriff's deputy, had apparently seen a sand bar and tried to avoid it abruptly. The eight year old girl, who was riding on the edge of the boat, fell into the water and the boat ran over her. It is unknown whether the propeller made contact, but she had abdominal injuries. GSFD took her to Needles and she was later flown into California where she is reportedly doing fine.

CELEBRITY STUCK AT TOPOCK

Topock - Country music star, Kris Allen, was driving an eighteen wheeler thru Topock Saturday. He and his wife decided to stop for some sleep between the Topock Exit 1 and the Topock Gorge Marina. When time to leave they discovered the rear wheels of the trailer had stuck in the sand and they couldn't move. After unsuccessfully attempting to use chains, they sought help. Some local people assisted and got them loose and on their way. Kris Allen passed out CD's to those who helped. Kris said that two of his songs had made the Top 10, but he gave the biggest one to help hungry and homeless children, so they are driving a truck to make enough money to make their next album. You can visit his website at www.krisallen.com

hey mom, on this keyboard there are no letters because they are all worn out so bare with if i mess up or something. well i have to tell you that i just got done with the worst gig ever. it started yesterday when they came and picked us up. they were 3 hours late and right when we left the alternater brlt or something fell off so we had to stop.
then we were driving through baghdad and they hit a bump and we had a monitor hagin out the back just beggin to hit the road. so we had to stop in baghdad which is not a place that i like to stop and hang out. so we arrived and we set up, but we didnt do a sound check. we did it this morning an hour before the gig. but our sound man is so stupid that he didnt even thinkof the settings that bruce willis had and everything was switshed. so we had no sound out of the speakers. so larry decides that we have to go on. so he wants to platy jazz.
like i ermember any of those charts. so then we finally get the speakers working after hours of wanting to beat someones head in. and then everybody was watching football on the big screens. so we had like 5 people that payed attention to us. we were supposed to play from 7 to 10 tonite but unfortuantely there is more football on. so we packed up. this was our last show as a band together. we are supposed to regroup in december. but i have half a mind to not play. after the way everyone acted today i wanted to to burn or throw something. so thats what happend. now, they cant get us out of here for 3 days. so im stuck in this place that get bombed. we got bobmed about 17times last night. the booms were making my bad shake. its ver unpleasant. well thanks for letting me vent. i have to go. i will write more soon, but this is all i can think about right now. i love you, bob

NO GAY MARRIAGES IN ARIZONA
Phoenix - VICTORY! A three-judge panel of the Arizona Court of Appeals today released a unanimous opinion rejecting the efforts of two gay men to be married, and upholding a 1996 law drafted by The Center for Arizona Policy that bans same sex marriage in Arizona! The court held that "the fundamental right to marry protected by our federal and state constitutions does not encompass the right to marry a same-sex partner... it is for the people of Arizona, through their elected representatives or by using the initiative process, rather than this court, to decide whether to permit same-sex marriages." We are thrilled that the court refused this invitation to judicial activism, and we hope this clear, well-reasoned opinion will have national impact in declaring what should be obvious – there is no federal or state constitutional right to gay marriage. Any court that would declare such a right would be engaging in liberal activism and ignoring the will of the people.

Interest Rates Below 5.8%
Author: Beth Bresnahan
Rismedia, Oct. 7-Even with an expected acceleration in economic growth, inflation should remain low. That will maintain a low level of mortgage interest rates and keep housing near historic highs in 2004, according to the National Association of Realtors.
David Lereah, NAR;s chief economist, said a growing economy normally places pressure on interest rates. "Many industries including the hard-hit manufacturing sector are now facing increased demand, and we can expect strong economic growth into next year. With no inflation in sight, we don't expect the Federal Reserve to move on interest rates until the third quarter of 2004."
Lereah said the movement in mortgage interest rates in 2003 has been both unusual and unexpected. "Not only have we seen record lows for mortgage interest rates, but also we've seen unprecedented sharp swings up and down this year.
The 30-year fixed rate is now back below 5.8 percent - on an annual basis we have to go back to the early 60s to see mortgage interest rates where they are today." Interest rate to remain below 6.5 percent for the rest of this year.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
National - Preventing Breast Cancer Part I: Lifestyle and Health October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With new cases expected to occur in an estimated 211,300 women in the United States in 2003, lowering the chances of breast cancer is important. The following lifestyle changes may help prevent or decrease your breast-cancer risk: Get active. Regular physical activity (at least 30 minutes on most days) has been shown to be protective against breast cancer. Supplement wisely. Folic acid, vitamin D and antioxidants all may help. Reduce exposure to xenoestrogens. Chemical toxins that have estrogen-like activity, such as common pesticides, industrial pollutants and hormone residues in meat, poultry and dairy products should be limited. Avoid exposure to radiation. Limiting the number of chest x-rays, especially at a young age, may decrease the risk of breast cancer. Maintain your health care. Early detection is key: in addition to monthly self examinations, women between age 20 and 39 should have a clinical breast exam performed by a health care professional at least every three years; women 40 years of age or older should have annual breast exams and mammograms. Keep your genetics in mind. If you have close relatives with breast cancer, you are at a higher risk. Let your doctor know your family history, and discuss other ways you can help to prevent breast cancer.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
MEETING RESCHEDULED

WHAT IS IT?

G.S. - Several people have asked, "What is that big post the county just installed across the road from the school?" Wednesday Philip Wisely of the Mohave County Flood Control District told GSX that this is a part of a complete new system the county is installing that will give them early warnings of weather changes in any given area of the county. Currently it only detects precipitation (rain fall), but within the next 3 months more equipment will be installed at the "Sensor Station" that will provide high winds, thunderstorms, flooding, temperature, and much more. There is a page on the county website where anyone can go and get a history for a period of time you set to give the movement of a storm, and much more information. The system also reports directly to the National Weather Service, so Golden Shores is now an official reporting station for NWS. Being new, there is much to learn about the system. The county is budgeted to spend around $75,000 on this system county-wide. You can visit the website: Click Here and then enter the number 12 in the map box, then click on Display Map.

    AIR CONDITIONING
A customer was bothering the waiter in a restaurant. First, he asked that the air conditioning be turned up because he was too hot, then he asked it be turned down cause he was too cold, and so on for about half an hour.
Surprisingly, the waiter was very patient, he walked back and forth and never once got angry. So finally, a second customer asked him why he didn't throw out the pest.
'Oh, I really don't care or mind,' said the waiter with a smile. 'We don't even have an air conditioner.'

    Weekly Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, We make many plans without consulting You and then ask You to bless them. Please forgive us, Lord. Help us enter into Your plans and BE a blessing to You in them! Let us look to You not to our own ways. There is a way that seems right to us that ends in disaster. Help us consider well what You would have us do before we jump in and do things on our own. Guide and keep us Lord, help us overcome a spirit of stupid that lurks to pounce right on us when we are full of ourselves.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
