PLANE LEAVES BULLHEAD, CRASHES
Bullhead City - A nine passenger Cessna 421 Golden Eagle crashed in the desert near Baker, California, about 30 miles from the Nevada border on a flight from Bullhead City to Van Nuys. The pilot, 89-year-old Robert Brown, a real estate agent from Burbank, also had two other agents on board. They are identified as Bart Caldwell and Bonnie Day. At least two other passengers were reported to be onboard, however they have not yet been identified. According to reports, some of the group had won the trip to the Laughlin area at a church raffle and were expected back by week's end. Recovery efforts continued over the weekend and the total number of victims had not been determined according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office.

2 CRASHES, 2 DEAD
GOLDEN VALLEY - One person is dead after a two vehicle crash in Golden Valley. The accident occurred Saturday at Higley Road on Highway 68. According to Department of Public Safety reports, Bobby Golden, 61, was trying to cross the highway and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Golden's car was struck on the passenger side, killing Sharon Chamberlain, 46. DPS is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
BULLHEAD CITY - Speed is believed to be the contributing factor in a fatal rollover accident on the Bullhead Parkway Saturday. According to reports, Jose Valencia was northbound when he lost control and skidded off the roadway. He continued to skid sideways in the dirt shoulder until hitting an embankment, causing the car to roll. Valencia was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and pronounced dead at the scene.

Claypools offers building to Palo Verde College
Needles, CA - The family that may well go down in history as Needles’ greatest benefactors are prepared to make their most visible donation yet. Nita Claypool confirmed on Friday that the landmark Claypool’s Complex on Needles’ main street has been offered to Palo Verde Community College. “We are going to donate the building if they can accept it,” she said. The college’s board of trustees, meeting on Tuesday in Needles, took action to see if that is possible. Jerry Lewis, director at the Needles Center of the college currently operating on the local high school campus, confirmed that the college’s architectural firm has been assigned to perform a due diligence analysis of the complex to determine if it will suffice for college classrooms in downtown Needles. The analysis is to be completed by the end of November.

VETERANS DAY SERVICE
G.S. - On Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. the local VFW Post 6306 and auxiliaries will be at Desert Lawn Cemetery for Veterans Day services. FEDERAL GRANT FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Ft. Mohave - The Fort Mohave Mesa Fire Department has been awarded $185,000 by the Department of Homeland Security's FEMA division. Fire Chief, Mike Eno, says the funds will improve the safety of their firefighters. "The grant is for buying brand new breathing apparatus, those little air packs that the firefighters wear on their backs. Also we're going to be using that money to replace every set of protective clothing, the turn-outs that we issue the firefighters, that they wear when they go inside the burning structures." The funding is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

EMERGENCY FIRE NUMBER
G.S. - The Golden Shores Fire Department wants everyone to know that the old local phone number for emergencies will be discontinued in November. The phone number for emergencies is 911. Please do not use the old 768 number after November 1st. The local phone number for business and personal calls is still the same 768-4546.

NEW HOSPITAL AT MOHAVE VALLEY
Needles - Needles hospital administrator, Bob Luther, addressing the city council last week, confirmed what has been rumored for several months. The facility's operator, Province Healthcare, will build a new hospital across the river in Arizona. "It will be a 60-bed hospital, initially, have four operating rooms, with modern radiology service, modern lab service, just a new hospital, all private rooms," he said. The hospital will be only a short drive from Needles and close to the growing Bullhead City/Mohave Valley market.

MICROSOFT OFFERS BOUNTY
National - Microsoft today announced the creation of a $5 million fund to be used to reward people who turn over information leading to the conviction of virus writers. To kick off the program, Microsoft offered rewards of $250,000 each for information that leads to the arrest of the authors of two recent viruses, Blaster and SoBig.F. The company announced the offers at a press conference in Washington in conjunction with the FBI, Secret Service and Interpol.

MORE FLYERS AT LHC
Lake Havasu City - The city is reporting a positive trend regarding passengers on the subsidized airline service. "The reports that we are getting from the airport and the airline is that the numbers are rising as far as the number of passengers between Phoenix and Lake Havasu," said city spokesperson Charlie Cassens. He said the city has a group working on programs to increase ridership even more. "In order to get more Phoenicians on the flights to Havasu, a cross promotion with a Phoenix classic rock radio station, KSLX, is in the works," he said. He said the first steps on the promotion have already been taken. "KSLX personnel visited Lake Havasu City last weekend, and those people will incorporate their experiences into their broadcast with emphasis that beautiful Lake Havasu City is less than an hour away by air," said Mr. Cassens The goal, according to Mr. Cassens, is to no longer have to subsidize empty seats with the federal and state grant money.
