According to Steve Volden with the Department of Public Safety, the closure affected a number of people, and it was wide spread. The accident was just north of Wickenburg at the junction of 93 and 71. Traffic was halted north on 93. People had to either go through Prescott or go out towards Parker. MORE HOLIDAY PATROLS
Mohave County -
Mohave County Sheriff's Office will have an increased patrol presence during this Thanksgiving weekend beginning November 29th through November 30th, 2003. This proactive approach is to reduce the number of people that may be injured during this holiday weekend while driving under the influence of alcohol. The MCSO will be also participating in "You Drink & Drive. You Lose." campaign which is targeted toward removing intoxicated drivers from our roadways.

Thanksgiving Thoughts
Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be Thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100.
This is a blessed time of year when we stop and give thanks for our many blessings. Many traditions are changing or being dropped all together. However, this Thanksgiving I will be with my family giving thanks to my God for blessings in my work, home, health, family and wonderful friends. All is well and I am at peace.

PROBLEMS GETTING THIS PUBLICATION
G.S. -
A lot of people are being cut off from our mailing list because of the spam filters on the Frontier internet email service. We are starting to get back a lot of emails saying, "Spam messages are not being accepted by...", so if you are not getting, or stop getting your email from us, it is not because we have stopped, it's because of the spam filters you have setup on your Frontier email service. You need to make gsnews@goldenshores.net as one of your "friends".
HEALTH OFFICIALS PROJECT BAD FLU SEASON
Mohave County -
The flu season seems to be coming to the Tri-State area earlier than normal according to health officials. It does seem to be starting a little bit earlier than it has in previous years, so they think that it will be a little bit more severe of a flu season based on that. Here in Mohave County we don't have any cases right now that we have been told about from the doctors. But it is important to know that flu is not a disease that is required to be reported. "So if a doctor does have a case, he is not required to let us know that," said Jennifer McNally with the Mohave County Department of Public Health.
She said that the department does have people on the lookout for the seasonal illness. "They have what are called sentinel physicians and its just some physicians who are selected that if they do have somebody come in and is diagnosed with the flu, they do report that to us." She added that the best defense is to get a flu shot.
RIVER STOCKED WITH FISH
Colorado River -
On Tuesday, Arizona Game and Fish stocked about 5,000 five inch trout in the Colorado River below Davis Dam. The fish are from the Page Springs Hatchery, a surplus because of lake closures in the Flagstaff area. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery conducted the stocking along the Arizona and Nevada shorelines from Davis Dam to about one mile down river. Andy Clark, the Kingman regional fisheries biologist, said the trout should grow to a foot by March or April and "Spring fishing along this stretch of the Colorado should be excellent."
EDITOR NEEDED
The editor of this paper AND The Civic needs an assistant. I need someone that I can train to possibly take over in the event something happens to me. Besides, this little paper is growing very fast and there is going to be room for expansion soon. It would be part time work, but you must be quite computer literate. There is no pay from the Civic Association, so the hours and pay are low, but great potential. If interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
G.S. -
Most residents of Golden Shores are under the misconception that the Neighborhood Watch and the Patrol were "one". This is not true. The Watch and the Patrol were separate entities having separate meetings, different members and paying separate dues. The "Patrol" patrolled the streets. The "Watch" watches out for their neighbors. If they see anything suspicious, for example, they know their neighbors are out of town and they see someone on their property or a light comes on, they report it to the police. Did you know the crime rate here has gone up considerably since the Watch disbanded? Our revamped Watch will work under the original charter so if you were a life-time member, you still are.
Our next meeting is Monday, December 15th at 6:00 p.m. Please join us.
VFW OPERATION UPLINK
G.S. -
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) and its Auxiliaries kicked off its Operation Uplink Nov. 11, Veterans Day, to provide prepaid telephone cards to hospitalized veterans and military service members stationed overseas and at military bases in the United States. Phone cards are also provided to ships at sea.
A donation has been made by Ladies Auxiliary 6306 Golden Shores to support this program.
Operation Uplink bulletin "The Connection" stated that over the past 12 months, Operation Uplink has distributed more phone cards than in the entire seven years since the program's inception.
The VFW cannot, by itself, bear the cost of getting prepaid calling cards to more than two million members of active-duty military services and hospitalized veterans.
Since the terrorist attack on America September 11, 2001, the VFW and its volunteer network have distributed almost 600,000 prepaid phone cards to service members and veterans.
An appeal to businesses and other non-profit organizations brought an unprecedented assistance, both in financial support and in-kind goods.
Donations can be mailed directly to Operation Uplink at VFW National Headquarters, 406 W. 34th St., Ste. 710, Kansas City, 64111. Donations can also be made over the Internet at www.vfw.org.
G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.
