LOTS OF KIDS GET TOYS
G.S. -
The Golden Shores Fire Department joined Santa Claus for the delivery of toys in Golden Shores on Christmas Eve. Many kids received presents that would not have otherwise if it were not for all the hard work and efforts of the fire department. Thank you all who donated toys and gifts to make this a memorable Christmas for so many children, and such a BIG THANKS to our fire department employes and volunteers who labored to make it possible. Each child in Golden Shores received 3 to 5 gifts from Santa this year and all had a wonderful time making Christmas Merry.

Sheriff Tom Sheahan said that during the past weekend they delivered the angel tree gifts and bicycles throughout Mohave County including up on the Arizona Strip. They also worked with the Marine Corps league and Toys for Tots to deliver toys to Kingman Aid to Abused People Center. They also delivered to numerous homes throughout Mohave County, which continued throughout Christmas Eve.

NEW COUNTY INFO SITE
Mohave County -
Geographic Information Systems in Mohave County is now up and running on the county's website. Its just a beginning, but you will be able to look up actual satellite photos on one of the maps, as well as street centerlines that you can search by street. There are parcels for Bullhead and Lake Havasu right now. The assessors geographical information fund has an added surcharge to every recorded document which is deposited and that is how they are funding this project. So there is really no general fund money involved, it is all a separate charge based on documents recorded. You can view the website in it's primitive state: Click here.
FEW TO GET FLU SHOTS
TriState -
Don't line up for a flu shot just yet. Doctors can start referring their high-risk people, but the State Department of Health only has 2,200 doses of vaccine to be spread out across the entire state, with no word on whether any more will become available. The Mohave County Department of Public Health received a limited supply of flu vaccine. The vaccine will only be provided to individuals who are at a high risk due to medical conditions. Nursing offices also have received a small supply of the pediatric vaccine. This is open to children from 6 months to 35 months of age, but this will only be provided to those that are at high risk. If you believe that you or your child may qualify for this vaccination please call the health department's toll free number 866-409-4099.

Nation's Housing Market Poised For Solid Showing In 2004
RISMEDIA, Dec. 19-Coming off one of the housing market’s best years in history in 2003. "With most - but not all - of the data in for 2003, it’s obvious that this has been a record-breaking year for the single-family market and for homeownership in the U.S.," said NAHB Chief Economist David Seiders. "Not only will new-home sales break the million-unit mark for the first time on record, but it’s now apparent that total production of new single-family homes (including homes built on owners’ lots) will hit its highest level in history in 2003, at about 1.5 million units. Moreover, evolving market fundamentals -- including a modestly higher interest rate structure, stronger job and income growth, and maintenance of strong demographic foundations (bolstered by robust immigration) -- will keep single-family market activity at an elevated level in 2004."
My very best wishes to you and your family for a fantastic 2004.
Becky welcomes your questions and comments.
GROCERS SAY "EAT BEEF"
Tristate -
If you are planning on beef dish on your holiday menu but you're concerned about the news of mad cow disease being discovered in Washington State, not to worry. According to representatives of at least one grocery store, there is no danger of eating beef being tainted with the bovine disease. The meat in this area does not come from Washington State and none of the meat suppliers get meat from WA. Despite there being no danger, grocers say proper meat handling and cooking practices are always a must.

But you can visit the website at http://www.az511.com. By knowing current road conditions can make your drive safer and less frustrating.

RIVER VALLEY BEATS NEEDLES

PHONE CALLS ONLINE?
Internet -
Voice over IP is cheap, easy, and available. Here's how it works.
It started as a geek-out for corporate penny-pinchers. But now making phone calls using voice over Internet protocol is resonating with consumers. VoIP startups are promising cheap - sometimes free - calls to anywhere in the world. Stick wireless networking in the mix and voilà, voice over Wi-Fi. Add it all up and you get a disruptive technology that's making conventional phone companies nervous. Already 10 percent of all calls are transmitted with VoIP, and the adoption curve is arching steeply skyward.

EDITOR NEEDED
The editor of this paper AND The Civic needs an assistant. I need someone that I can train to possibly take over in the event something happens to me. Besides, this little paper is growing very fast and there is going to be room for expansion soon. It would be part time work, but you must be quite computer literate. There is no pay from the Civic Association, so the hours and pay are low, but great potential. If interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

FBI HALTS FLU SHOT SCAM
Atlanta, GA -
$1.65 million for bogus vaccine has been recovered by the FBI. Georgia health officials said Wednesday they had recovered all but $70,000 of the $1.65 million they paid last week to purchase flu vaccine from a Texas company that didn't actually have the goods, and the rest is on the way.
"We will not be getting the 100,000 doses of flu vaccine," said Dr. Kathleen Toomey, director of the state Division of Public Health. "The FBI told me [Wednesday] that fraud was committed."
Toomey said the FBI had not told her who committed the fraud, but that the vaccine her office paid for did not exist. She said the federal agency called her at home last weekend to say they had recovered the $1.65 million, which would be returned to the state in three payments. Toomey said she received the second payment Wednesday afternoon. The first payment came from Adaptable Medical Services of Houston and the second from a bank in Florida, she said.
"We expect the third payment in a day or so," Toomey said. "The FBI told us that other states have been similarly defrauded."
She credited the FBI's quick action for the recovery of the money.
EMAIL LIST PROBLEMS
G.S. -
Two companies, Hotmail and Yahoo, have blocks against bulk mailers and do not allow their email to go thru. Some people in G.S. have been cut off from our mailing list because of the spam filters on the Frontier internet email service. If you want to continue to receive this news weekly, and if you are a Frontier customer, you will have to go into the Frontier Web Mail online and make gsnews@goldenshores.net one of your friends. As we get these "Spam" messages back from various email addresses, we will be deleting the email addresses from our list. We are always happy to subscribe anyone that wants to receive our publication, but we don't need all the "Spam-blocker" email coming back to us.
G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Your loving kindness to us that do not deserve it. We thank You for supplying our every need before we know we need it. Many of us have been hurt when we chose to trust another, but You said You would never leave us You would never let us down. Father, let us begin the New Year knowing that You are Jehovah, Lord God Almighty and nothing is too hard or too insignificant for You. Let us take rest in Your presence and in Your touch throughout the year.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
