HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS
Tri-State - Mohave County Sheriff's Office have identified Cheryl Henry, 50, of Santa Clara, California, in a fatal accident that occurred on I-40 at milepost 83 on Friday 12/26. Approximately 6:30 am the vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-40 when she lost control of her vehicle and spun out and collided with a guardrail, at a bridge. Henry got out of the vehicle and apparently slipped on the roadway thereby plunging her over the guardrail and where she landed approximately 50-feet down. River Medical responded to the scene. Detectives determined Henry's death was due to the fall.
Police have released the name of a person killed in a single vehicle rollover accident on Christmas Day. The driver has been identified as Shalimar Deller, 28, of Bullhead City. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were on board or not. According to reports, the vehicle rolled over in the vicinity of Bullhead Parkway and Highway 95. Officers investigating the collision indicate that speed may have been a factor.
Another accident happened on I-40 at the CA mile 129 on New Year's Eve at around 8:00 p.m., but it is still unknown if there were any injuries. This reporter just happened to be coming in from California on 12/31 and heard the call on the radio. CHP and an ambulance from Needles were in route.

QUARTZSITE SEES INFLUX
Quartzsite - The end of the holiday season means one thing in Quartzsite - watching the population skyrocket. Snowbirds from across the country make their way to the La Paz County town for a chance to take part in some the largest swapmeets shows in the West. The town’s population routinely swells to an estimated 1.5 million during some of the larger shows. But some officials fear that the large increase in people will result in a matching jump in flu outbreaks.
The question in the minds of health officials have is, "Will we see it peak earlier and get it over sooner." They don't know. Or if they're really in for a long flu season, that remains to be seen. Records show that last year, the flu season in La Paz County peaked in February, while the season started a bit earlier this year. And through early December, the number of cases is up about 12 percent. So if Quartzsite is on your agenda for this winter, make sure you are prepared and healthwise.

NEEDLES SKATE PARK OPENS
Needles - After years of hard work and thousands of dollars of donations, the skate park in Needles will open this Saturday. The park will open to the public at a ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. AZ time.
It is too bad that Golden Shores has a skate park concrete slab at the Civic Center and the board of directors will not allow it's completion for fear of insurance rates. There could also be a swimming pool at the Civic Center if some of the board were not so afraid of the insurance rates. Seems that any additional insurance costs could be absorbed or charged for as an entrance fee. Write to this paper if you have an opinion.

SSI STOLEN?
Social Security -
Submitted by Loretta Pope
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:
Q: Which party took Social Security from an independent fund and put it in the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which party put a tax on Social Security?
A: The Democratic party.
Q: Which party increased the tax on Social Security?
A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.
Q: Which party decided to give money to immigrants?
A: That's right, immigrants moved into this country and at 65 got SSI Social Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never paid a dime into it.
Then, after doing all this, the Democrats turn around and tell you the Republicans want to take your Social Security. And the worst part about it is, people believe it!

NEED A RIDE TO CHURCH?

EDITOR NEEDED
The editor of this paper AND The Civic needs an assistant. I need someone that I can train to possibly take over in the event something happens to me. Besides, this little paper is growing very fast and there is going to be room for expansion soon. It would be part time work, but you must be quite computer literate. There is no pay from the Civic Association, so the hours and pay are low, but great potential. If interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

LICENSE PLATE RENEWAL
Arizona - Save time and GRIEF by renewing your license plates online. The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division is reporting a four-week delay in processing vehicle registration renewals. A MVD official suggested that instead of trying to call the MVD, residents should take their statement, Vehicle Identification Number and plate information and go online. The MVD will process your tags in three to four business days. The website can be found by going to http://servicearizona.com, or click on the E Z RENEWAL tag on the left side of this news.

EMAIL LIST PROBLEMS
G.S. - Two companies, Hotmail and Yahoo, have blocks against bulk mailers and do not allow their email to go thru. Some people in G.S. have been cut off from our mailing list because of the spam filters on the Frontier internet email service. If you want to continue to receive this news weekly, and if you are a Frontier customer, you will have to go into the Frontier Web Mail online and make gsnews@goldenshores.net one of your friends. As we get these "Spam" messages back from various email addresses, we will be deleting the email addresses from our list. We are always happy to subscribe anyone that wants to receive our publication, but we don't need all the "Spam-blocker" email coming back to us.

G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK

Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.
