KIDS STAY OFF DRUGS
Needles -
The Needles’ Elks are having a Hoop Shoot free throw contest on January 11. Boys and girls ages 8-13 are invited with their supporters to the Needles Recreation Center at 1 p.m. California Time to demonstrate their basketball talents. Trophies are awarded to the first and second place boys and girls from each of three age groups. The winners of these six divisions proceed to the district competition, and then to the state. The national competition will air during a televised NBA game, and these winners are enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The Elks cover the expenses of traveling to these events for both the children and their parents. The Elks’ Lodge has been running the Hoop Shoot contest for over 50 years. It now reaches over 3 million children across the country, encouraging them to shoot hoops instead of drugs. For more information contact Leonard Owensby at (760) 326-3412 or (760) 326-3238.

In January, the United States is expected to register one birth every 8 seconds and one death every 13 seconds. Meanwhile, net international migration is expected to add one person every 25 seconds. NEW COUNTY - LAKE HAVASU
Lake Havasu City -
Dr. Bill Ullery has taken it upon himself to collect information on Mohave County’s finances and has now outlined the process necessary for the city to secede from the county. Ullery states the current statutes on creating a new county establish several significant hurdles that are quite unreasonable, and our review teams have come to the conclusion that trying to work within that statute would not be to the advantage of the citizens of Lake Havasu City. He also said he has received a lot of feedback from the reports. He has received 200 or 300 emails from people offering to help, wanting to do something, but has not seen the leadership emerge yet.
Supervisor, Buster Johnson, stated that he feels "smaller is not better", but he understands that the people of Lake Havasu City are "fed-up" being the biggest contributors to the county and receiving less benefits.
According to the plan, Golden Shores would be divided down the middle being half in Mohave County and half in Lake Havasu County. All of the information gathered is available on the website, seen by clicking here.

MAN RUNS OVER WIFE
Lake Havasu City -
A local woman was taken to the hospital Monday morning after an accident at her home. According to police reports, Barbara Lawrence, 82, was helping her husband park their car when he apparently hit the accelerator, striking her and going through their garage wall, stopping inside the residence. Fire crews extricated the woman from beneath the vehicle and transported her to Havasu Regional Medical Center. Mr. Lawrence was not injured.
LICENSE PLATE RENEWAL
Arizona -
Save time and GRIEF by renewing your license plates online. The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division is reporting a four-week delay in processing vehicle registration renewals. A MVD official suggested that instead of trying to call the MVD, residents should take their statement, Vehicle Identification Number and plate information and go online. The MVD will process your tags in three to four business days. The website can be found by going to http://servicearizona.com, or click on the E Z RENEWAL tag on the left side of this news.
EDITOR NEEDED
The editor of this paper AND The Civic needs an assistant. I need someone that I can train to possibly take over in the event something happens to me. Besides, this little paper is growing very fast and there is going to be room for expansion soon. It would be part time work, but you must be quite computer literate. There is no pay from the Civic Association, so the hours and pay are low, but great potential. If interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

We have just purged our email list of all "spam", "mailbox full", "does not like recipient", "not valid", and Hotmail and Yahoo email addresses. Over 100 email addresses have just been deleted. If you do not receive this week's news, 1/9, and want to continue to receive this news weekly, you must re-subscribe and if you are a Frontier customer, you will have to go into the Frontier Web Mail online and make gsnews@goldenshores.net one of your friends. G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
When we feel unloved, unworthy and useless, thank You for accepting us in the Beloved. When it seems we have no friends and the world is out to get us, and half the church is too, thank You for being that friend that sticks closer than a brother. When nothing goes right and all seems hopeless thank You for holding us up in Your right hand. Thank You for the love You have given even when we don't know how to operate in it. Lead us to learn more about You.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
