2 ROLLOVER ACCIDENTS
Topock -
There were two rollover accidents in almost the same location within a 12 hour period. The first was Monday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. and the second one at about 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. They occured just east of Exit 1 on the westbound side of Interstate 40. The Golden Shores Fire Department reported that the first one was caused by a tire blowout. The second one was caused from the driver falling asleep. In both accidents there were only minor injuries and all passengers walked away without being transported to a medical center.
WARRANT ARREST
G.S. -
Mohave County Sheriff's Office deputy arrested Thomas Patrick Compte, 39, of Golden Shores, early Friday, 1/16, morning for a misdemeanor warrant for failure to comply with court issued by Lake Havasu City Municipal Court for disorderly conduct. Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 13100 block of Sonita Drive approximately 12:30 am. The roommate reported that Compte became verbally abusive. VIRUSES BLAST EMAIL
National -
A fast-moving Windows worm known as MyDoom on Monday began spreading at a furious rate on the Internet. Two other worms, Mimail.Q and Dumaru.Y, also gained traction on the Web over the last few days. Some people are reporting receiving up to 100 virus infected emails per hour.
MyDoom arrives via e-mail and has a randomized sender's address and subject line. The body of the message varies, but purports to be an error message, such as: "The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII and has been sent as a binary attachment." The file attachment is often in a ZIP archive format and can have any one of a number of file extensions, including .exe, .pif and .scr. The icon for the attachment looks like the one used for text messages in Windows.
MyDoom also copies itself to the registry in Windows so that it executes at startup, according to a preliminary analysis by Network Associates Inc.'s McAfee Security unit. The worm also opens Port 3127 and begins listening for instructions from a remote host.
BE SURE you keep your antivirus programs up-to-date and don't open anything you are not sure about. It can be a matter of life or death for your computer.

PAYPAL / EBAY SCAM
If you use Paypal to pay for items you buy from Ebay or other online auctions, then you will be interested to know that scam email that looks like it is coming from Paypal is trying to get your personal information from you, like credit card numbers, bank account numbers and names. The email warns you that if you don't respond, your Paypal account will be closed. They then use your Paypal account information to buy whatever they want to buy and get money from your account!
If you receive an email from Paypal (or looks like it is coming from Paypal), make sure it is legitimate by forwarding the scam email that you received to Paypal at spoof@paypal.com. I received this information back from Paypal when I forwarded a scam email to them.
"do NOT open the attachment that comes with the original email. We can confirm that the email you received was not sent by PayPal. The attachment contained within this email is a virus that has circulated around the internet. If you have opened the attachment, your computer may have been infected. Do not surrender any personal or financial information that may be requested. If you have previously submitted this information, we suggest you contact your issuing financial institution to report the incident."
Also, look out for any email that has "Microsoft" as the sender. It also contains a virus.

G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.
