KIDS ARRESTED
Bullhead City - Police responded to a residence on Church Street after receiving an anonymous tip that a number of juveniles were “huffing” or inhaling chemicals for a high. When officers arrived, they found six juveniles of jr. high school ages, four of whom had been inhaling the freon from a residential air conditioner. The boys were transported to Western Arizona University Medical Center for observation on the advice of the poison control board. MISSING MAN FOUND
Needles - A 68-year-old man was found with very minor injuries, dehydrated and fatigued but otherwise in good shape, after rolling his all-terrain vehicle in the desert over the weekend. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams were called out Friday after Jim Fort used his cell phone to report that he overturned his ATV, could not upright it, and was lost trying to walk back to his motor home. Search and Rescue teams stayed out all night, looking for Fort, and were joined in the morning by BLM officers and helicopters from the California Highway Patrol And Colorado River Indian Tribal Police. BLM Rangers found Fort Saturday morning in the Crossroads OHV area and reported Fort did not require medical attention.

    THIS WEEKEND

    BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
BHC/Laughlin - The annual bluegrass festival is this weekend at the bridge between Bullhead City and Laughlin. Several Golden Shores residents are participating in the festival including the Ramsey family and their vending booths. As in the past, former pastor of Golden Shores Community Baptist Church, Dean Stanley, will be delivering the sermon on Sunday morning. The festival runs all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    WINTERFEST
Lake Havasu City - Numerous vendors and organizations are gearing up for one of the city’s largest and well-known events, Winterfest. Originally the Snowbird Jamboree, attracts visitors from around the nation and hundreds of vendors that gather on McCulloch Boulevard for a large celebration. If the vendor space is an indicator, this year’s Winterfest will be one of the largest the city has ever seen. Several new components have been added to the Winterfest this year including the Havasu Idol contest which is kids five through 12 performing for the crowds and for our celebrity judges. Anyone who has attended the city’s annual Winterfest over the last 18 years is familiar with the large family oriented party-like atmosphere on McCulloch Boulevard. While the event will still be on Mainstreet for the 19th annual festival this weekend, the event is expanding. Winterfest activities are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.

    VIRUSES BLAST EMAIL
National - A fast-moving Windows worm known as MyDoom on Monday began spreading at a furious rate on the Internet. Two other worms, Mimail.Q and Dumaru.Y, also gained traction on the Web over the last few days. Some people are reporting receiving up to 100 virus infected emails per hour.
MyDoom arrives via e-mail and has a randomized sender's address and subject line. The body of the message varies, but purports to be an error message, such as: "The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII and has been sent as a binary attachment." The file attachment is often in a ZIP archive format and can have any one of a number of file extensions, including .exe, .pif and .scr. The icon for the attachment looks like the one used for text messages in Windows.
MyDoom also copies itself to the registry in Windows so that it executes at startup, according to a preliminary analysis by Network Associates Inc.'s McAfee Security unit. The worm also opens Port 3127 and begins listening for instructions from a remote host.
BE SURE you keep your antivirus programs up-to-date and don't open anything you are not sure about. It can be a matter of life or death for your computer.

    BUSINESS BURNS
Bullhead City - Over 30 firefighters from Bullhead City and Fort Mohave-Mesa spent over three hours fighting to extinguish the fire that destroyed the Skydragon China Buffet Restaurant on Saturday morning. This was reported to be the largest commercial fire Bullhead City has seen in several, several years. Between Fort Mohave-Mesa Fire Department and Bullhead City, there were 33 firefighters on scene, along with the Police Department shutting down the the highway and the Roads Department assisting them in road closings. The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short in a back storage shed. Damaged is estimated at around $500,000.

    ABUSE OF POWER
Colorado City - About 20 men were excommunicated by FLDS leader and self-named "prophet" Warren Jeffs. Those men were ordered to leave the city and leave their families behind. Ross Chatwin was one of those men, but he decided to not only stay, but to hold a press conference in the heart of the city Friday, condemning the actions of Jeffs. "I know this is right, and that's why I'm doing it. This is why I getting the guts to do this, because I believe that it's right," Chatwin said, adding that he believed his action might put himself and his wife in danger. His wife Lori said even with the potential for danger, she supported her husband and would stand by him. She decided to stay with her husband. "When you tell a family they can no longer love their father, you have to create something cold inside you to no longer love your husband or father. That's not right," she said. Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson was at there as well, pointing out that the excommunication of Chatwin and 20 others may be one of the first step in a bigger issue. "The possibility that the land in the UEP could be mortgaged to the hilt. And we're getting more rumors about that and people are investigating that now. It could mean that if Warren does take off, he mortgages everything and takes the money and runs, every house in this community could be up possibly for foreclosure if they cannot make the payments," Supervisor Johnson said.

    ON THIS DAY...
American baseball great, Hank Aaron, was born on this date in 1934. By the time he retired in 1976, he held records for home runs [755], times at bat [12,364], runs batted in [2,297], and number of games played [3,298].

    FISHING
It’s cold up and down the entire Colorado River. With the water temperature down to 54 degrees, the shad have gone deep and Lake Mead striper fishing has begun to dwindle. However, Willow Beach is still producing little stripers with the occasional big fish being picked up. Just last week one in the 20-pound class was landed using an AC plug. The weather could be a bit more desirable, but, all in all, fishing continues fairly steady. Capt. Doyle
