JOHN P. BOYLE Jr. DIES
G.S. -
Monday evening around 9:00 p.m. a hysterical call was heard on the fire channel on the radio. Golden Shores Fire Department responded very quickly to the home on Powel Lake where J.P. Boyle had been found on the floor of the garage. The first man on the scene immediately requested an airlift to a trauma unit. Additional G.S. Fire personnel arrived and quickly transported him to Needles where he was immediately airlifted to Las Vegas where he died a short time later from massive trauma. Boyle had been working on an vehicle at his residence when the engine exploded.
The G.S. Fire department is upset over the tragic loss of a member who responded to every call and has been around firefighters all his life. Boyle was 26 and was the department training officer. His father is Capt. John Boyle, Sr. and uncle is department Chief Jim Boyle. J.P. Boyle was a friend of many and will be missed.
The G.S. Fire Department received assistance covering calls Tuesday from other area departments such as Lake Havasu City. They have received offers from every other department in the area.
Arrangements for a service have not yet been made, but the public will be notified when information is available.
Donations to the family for expenses can be taken to the fire department.

COMPUTER VIRUSES RAGE
G.S. -
This author and editor, Yancey Sexton, has been one of many in Golden Shores that, not only has been attacked, but infected with viruses in the past week. As you may know, I do computer service work as well as being the editor of The Civic and this paper. I have been on several computer service calls in the past week to rid of viruses. It has been a battle! In some cases it has taken hours to get the viruses cleaned from a computer. The writers of the viruses seem to be battling each other now to see which can destroy the other, yet leaving many home and business computers as victims in their paths. As I have said before, you MUST keep your antivirus programs and data files current. If you have a virus or signs of a virus in your computer, don't just sit there and keep sending emails. You are spreading the virus to everyone else. Call a technician if you don't know how to fix it. Save your computer and your friends!
FROM THE GOVERNOR
Phoenix -
Ever since the Pentagon announced it plans to reduce the number of military installations in 2005, the need has been obvious for Arizona to do more to protect the long-term presence of its military installations. My office has been working diligently to do this, and this week, I added to that effort by establishing a permanent Military Affairs Commission. This Commission is charged with monitoring and making recommendations on executive, legislative and federal actions necessary to sustain and grow Arizona's network of military installations.
Also this week, I had the privilege of participating in the National Education Association's "Read Across America" day in honor of Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday. Students from kindergarten through the third grade wrote letters to me on what they thought my job is, or ought to be, as Governor. One nine-year-old girl summed up everything I am trying to do in office:
"I think a governor gives children a new beginning. You give money to education because you want children to learn in a nonconfusing way. If most kids are great students, they'd have enough knowledge to get a good job (like a doctor). If we get a good job we could help other people."

SHERIFF TOM SHEEHAN SPEAKS AT WOMEN'S CLUB
G.S. -
At the regularly scheduled Women's Club meeting on Tuesday morning, Sheriff Tom Sheehan was guest speaker. There were many men as well as women present. Sheehan talked about the size of Mohave County being 13,500 square miles, the 5th largest in the U.S. He said there are 60 unincorporated communities in the county with 75,000 people. The sheriff's office gets 40,000 calls per year with less than 100 officers to respond. The sheriff said Golden Shores is part of a beat system that is patrolled by each shift daily. Golden Shores in 2003 had 33 burlary calls, 44 domestic violence calls, 14 DUI's and 154 traffic citations. Sheriff Sheehan also talked about methamphetamine labs and urged anyone with any knowledge or suspicion of such labs to call the sheriff's office. He also urged the community to get a Block Watch started up again.
CHAMBERS MEET FOR SEMINAR
Lake Havasu City -
Chamber of Commerce members from around the Tri-State area met in a seminar Friday outlining keys for various employment issues. The meeting was presented by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the chamber in Havasu, as well as Bullhead City, Kingman and Parker." They were able to work with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce to save a lot of money and time and travel by meeting in LHC, but reportedly no one from the Topock/Golden Shores Chamber attended.

VFW PLANS IRISH DINNER
G.S. -
The Brig. Gen. Clifford H. Shuey VFW Post 6306 invites the community to a popular traditional St. Patrick's dinner. It will be served on March 6 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The dinner will include corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and cake for desert. A donation of $5.50 is requested.
INCREASE IN AD RATES
G.S. -
Advertisement rates are on the increase in Golden Shores. Both The Civic and GSX ad rates are going up April 1st. Ad prices have been so low for so long that it is hard for either paper to make any money, or even break even. The new ad rates are still much lower than any other publication around.
Why does Golden Shores eXtra need advertisers? Well, just like the television you watch, radio you listen to, and newspaper you read, GSX is a valuable free public service that requires the support of our sponsors. Thank you for including our sponsors' advertising as a part of your weekly GSX experience. Call or email about advertising rates: 768-1400 or gsnews@goldenshores.net.
OPINIONS
Trash in G.S. -
I have lived in this area for a few years and it is amazing to me the amount of trash you see laying everywhere. You'd think the amount of people who live here, and are retired, could get organized and start picking up some of the trash.
I work 5 days a week and on weekends try to keep the area I live in as clean as I can. Get a clue civic leaders, realtors, take some pride in your area and clean up the trash.
Neil Grider - A person who cares about the environment.
OPINIONS - are not necessarily the opinion of the Golden Shores eXtra or it's staff.

ON THIS DAY...
The constitution of the United States went into effect on this day in 1789.
I had amnesia once -- or twice.
I went to San Francisco. I found someone's heart.

NEW INTERNET SERVICES
G.S. -
We now have internet dialup service numbers available for ISPs such as Earthlink, Free4life, AOL (which I hope no one uses), and several other national ISPs (Internet Service Providers) with prices ranging from $9.95 to $24.95 per mo depending on what kind of service you want. Earthlink and Free4life are the only ones offering the HighSpeed dialup at this time. NetZero and Juno have not yet come online, but I'm sure they will shortly. DSL is not yet available thru anyone other than Frontier, but that is also coming soon. The dialup numbers are not yet being shown on some of the ISPs websites for the 768-788 prefixes, but if you look at the listings for the state, you see Lake Havasu City with 208 dialing prefixes and those are local numbers for 768-788 prefixes. If you type Access Numbers in a search engine like Google, you'll find several ISPs that already have the Lake Havasu City 208 numbers, and more will be coming online in the near future.
If you call the phone company, they will tell you the 208 numbers are invalid. If you call the ISPs, they will tell you they don't have service for 768-788, BUT THEY DO! Some people in town are already using the 208 numbers.
Earthlink is currently running a special to get people started with their high speed dialup at $10.97 per month for the first 6 months. Click Here for information.
G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

He Was Despised And Rejected – A Man of Sorrows,

This is a story about love, hope, faith, and forgiveness. Jesus died for all mankind, suffered for all of us. It's time to get back to that basic message. The world has gone nuts. We could all use a little more love, faith, hope, and forgiveness.
