The victim said that Cardwell, her boyfriend was very drunk and he becomes combative when he drinks. AGGRAVATED DUI
G.S. -
Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested Richard Neil Clayton, 47, early Friday 3/5 morning for aggravated DUI. Approximately 1:45 am deputies conducted a traffic stop at Golden Shores Parkway and Shore Drive and contacted Clayton. Clayton immediately exited his vehicle, leaving it running, and had to lean on his truck in order to keep his balance. The deputy reached into his vehicle and turned off the ignition. Deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Clayton. During conversations, Clayton admitted to having one drink. Clayton's' drivers license was suspended for a prior DUI. Following the field sobriety test, Clayton was taken into custody and transported to the Mohave County District II Substation where he refused to take the blood alcohol concentration test.

POSTMASTER DISRESPECTFUL
G.S. -
While the postmaster was gone last week, the ladies at the post office brought the flag to half mast in respect for J.P. Boyle. Reportedly, when postmaster Bonnie Comeau returned she asked "Why is the flag at half mast?" After hearing the answer, Comeau replied "He ain't nobody, put it back up." So the flag was returned to full mast. Numerous citizens in the community have expressed disdain and animosity toward the postmaster.

COMPUTER VIRUSES WORSE
G.S. -
One worm that has appeared arrives in an e-mail message with the subject line "Microsoft Alert: Please Read!" Another is "Dear user of "Goldenshores.net" mailing system". THIS IS NOT FROM GOLDENSHORES.NET. More commonly emails come in as "Important notify about your e-mail account" with any domain name, including citlink and frontiernet. DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS!!! It has gotten so that you cannot even safely open attachments from friends and relatives because the viruses are sending email using their email account with viruses attached. Just be EXTREMELY careful about what you open. Both Glen Wegener and I, Yancey Sexton, have been extremely busy in Golden Shores the past couple of weeks just cleaning up virus messes. And some of them require that the computer be reformatted and start from scratch.
GOVERNOR VETOS INFORMED CONSENT

Phoenix -
Like the arguments against the bill, Gov. Janet Napolitano’s veto message on informed consent was deceptive. Her explanation for the bill included a citation to certain statutes and administrative codes in making the argument that informed consent is already required by law. Her letter references laws that deal with the licensing and regulation of abortion clinics laws CAP lobbied successfully for in 1999 and 2000. Of course the abortion industry immediately sued to challenge the regulations. After the laws were substantially upheld in federal court and could have taken effect, then Attorney General Napolitano entered into an agreement with the abortionists’ lawyers to not enforce the laws pending appeal! This binding agreement signed by Napolitano is the reason those laws are not being enforced, and have never been implemented. And now she cites the same laws and codes she agreed not to enforce to justify her veto of informed consent! Audacious, certainly. But also quite disingenuous. Visit the CAP website for a full, legal analysis of the governor’s veto message. (This is not the first time this governor has offered disingenuous explanations for a veto of pro-family legislation last year, she cited a phantom study from a conservative public policy group to justify her veto of funding for abstinence programs. There is no such study.)

WATER POLUTION
Topock -
National news wires are reporting that the Metropolitan Water District as well as environmental officials are concerned about a plume of hexavalent chromium, also known as Chromium 6, a known carcinogen. The chemical is making it’s way towards the Colorado River. The compound is emanating from Pacific Gas and Energy’s power plant at Topock. This could affect as many as 18 million southern Californians. PG&E officials as well as environmental officials have come up with a number of plans to try to keep the pollution of making it to the river, including pumping as much as 20,000 gallons of the tainted groundwater a day to stop the flow. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has asked California state legislators take emergency action. "The plume has moved past the last sentry well. It's thought to be 125 feet from the river," said Lisa Anderson, an environmental engineer at MWD's headquarters in Los Angeles.

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY
Chloride -
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated Western style with Beef, beer and blarney on the schedule as for Chloride’s 15th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The festivities kick off with a bang, literally on March 13 as the Immortal Gunfighters stage a series of shootouts beginning at 10 a.m. The parade begins at high noon and is followed by more entertainment. Let's just hope the gunfighters from Oatman don't show up in Chloride.
INCREASE IN AD RATES
G.S. -
Advertisement rates are on the increase in Golden Shores. Both The Civic and GSX ad rates are going up April 1st. Ad prices have been so low for so long that it is hard for either paper to make any money, or even break even. The new ad rates are still much lower than any other publication around.
Why does Golden Shores eXtra need advertisers? Well, just like the television you watch, radio you listen to, and newspaper you read, GSX is a valuable free public service that requires the support of our sponsors. Thank you for including our sponsors' advertising as a part of your weekly GSX experience. Call or email about advertising rates: 768-1400 or gsnews@goldenshores.net.
FOOD CARE PICKUP
G.S. -
DON'T FORGET THE NEW PICKUP TIME! Food Care boxes will be distributed from 11:00 - 1:00 on Tuesday 3/16.
OPINIONS
VANDALISM IS HAPPENING AGAIN IN G.S. -
I'm sure that all of us, as kids, loved to throw rocks whether it be across the top of water or at cans and bottles. And we've probably tossed a few at stray or unwanted critters. But when it comes to throwing them to destroy peoples property, that's vandalism.
I don't know who the person (or persons) is that broke windows at the Old Route 66 gas station, but this letter is to them... .Breaking the stations windows was bad enough, but do you realize what you've done by breaking the windows in the old cars that were parked behind the station in a LOCKED & FENCED yard.
Our friend, who owns that property, restores classic cars. Many times he must buy almost a complete car just to replace parts in the one he is restoring. You have completely destroyed windows that are (next to) impossible to replace.
This man is very active with and sponsors different youth groups in his area and he could have been one of your "best friends". He even hires some "street" people to help them along their way.
I truly hope that you, at the very least, are sorry and feel bad about what you have done. Or you will at least think twice before thinking about or destroying someone else's property.
Gladys May

EARTHLINK DENIES SERVICE
G.S. -
We now have internet dialup service numbers available for ISPs such as Earthlink, Free4life, AOL (which I hope no one uses), and several other national ISPs (Internet Service Providers) with prices ranging from $9.95 to $24.95 per mo depending on what kind of service you want. However, Earthlink is denying that they have service for 928-768 prefixes. But when I called them and asked if we can use the Lake Havasu City number, 208-4012, they said, "Sure, if it works and it's not long distance, use it!" The dialup numbers are not yet being shown on some of the ISPs websites for the 768-788 prefixes, but if you look at the listings for the state, you see Lake Havasu City with 208 dialing prefixes and those are local numbers for 768-788 prefixes. If you type Access Numbers in a search engine like Google, you'll find several ISPs that already have the Lake Havasu City 208 numbers, and more will be coming online in the near future.
If you call the phone company, they will tell you the 208 numbers are invalid. If you call the ISPs, they will tell you they don't have service for 768-788, BUT THEY DO! Some people in town are already using the 208 numbers.
Earthlink is currently running a special to get people started with their high speed dialup at $10.97 per month for the first 6 months. Click Here for information or call 768-1400.
G.S. WEBSITE GETS NEW LOOK
We're always looking for ways to improve the Golden Shores website. The traffic on this website is greatly increasing. We have a new host and we have removed all hyperlinks on the Golden Shores website unless there is paid advertising.
The website has been moved to a non-commercial, popup free hosting space. This new space is not supported by popup advertising screens. This costs money, but not much. The cost to continue to have your Website Links and Email Links is only $20.00 per year. Now you also have the option of having a banner ad put on the page for only $50.00 per year which includes a link. To have your business listed on the website is free, but we will cover our costs with Links. Give your business some class. If you do not have a website for your business, website design and webspace is very reasonable. Call 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net. We are always open to suggestions.

ON THIS DAY...
On this night in 1942, during WWII, General Douglas MacArthur and his wife and son, and members of his staff, escaped from the Philipines to Australia by running a Japanese blockade in four torpedo boats. MacArthur promised the Filipinos, "I shall return."
