MARRIAGE DESECRATED
Massachusetts - This week it has become painfully obvious that marriage as we once knew it will never be the same. Right now in Massachusetts, homosexual and lesbian couples are lining up to marry--legally! In essence, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, along with various state officials, has desecrated the sanctity of marriage and forever altered the course of this important institution. Now, more than ever, we must unite in prayer for the direction of our nation and for wisdom in responding to this attack on our values and foundations.
The CENTER FOR RECLAIMING AMERICA, Dr. James Kennedy, has launched a nationwide campaign to rally 250,000 citizens to “Stand For Marriage.” This petition simply states that marriage should be defined as “one man and one woman”. The CENTER wants to deliver 250,000 petitions this year to leaders in Congress in support of the Federal Marriage Amendment. Please CLICK HERE and take a stand for the sanctity of marriage.

FIRE AT WAL-MART
Bullhead City - A 3-alarm fire began when a Wal-Mart truck pulled into the dock at the store in Bullhead City last Monday and required the presence of both Bullhead City and Fort Mohave Mesa's Fire Departments. The store was closed during the incident. Apparently, according to some employees, the fire actually started in the trailer. Most of the Wal-Mart remains undamaged because of quick response by the Fort Mohave Mesa Fire Department. The only damage to the inside of Wal-Mart was smoke damage. There was no heat or fire whatsoever inside the store due to a job well done by the Wal-Mart staff in sealing off the area. The fire itself did about $110,500 in damage to the store and the trailer was valued at $17,000.

"Click It or Ticket"
Tri-State - The Bullhead City Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, will be stepping up enforcement while participating in the National campaigns of "Click It or Ticket" and "You Drink & Drive, You Lose". The National Campaign is conducted throughout the remainder of May thru June 6, 2004. Law enforcement will utilize saturation patrols to enforce traffic laws in our area. The saturation patrol, is an increased number of officers who will patrol a concentrated geographic area. The focus of the saturation patrols will be on usage of seatbelts, child safety restraints and driving under the influence. The Memorial Day Holiday is generally thought of as the kick-off for the summer. We will see an influx of visitors on our roadways and waterways. As a result, law enforcement will be on the Colorado River to help ensure a safe and happy weekend for all. These officers will be looking for violators of boating regulations, such as Operating a watercraft Under the Influence.

TOPOCK SPORTS SPECIAL
Topock School - The Topock Hawks Track Team had an outstanding season this year. Meets were held in March, April, and May in Kingman, Lake Havasu City, and Bullhead City. The team earned a 2nd place trophy for small schools at the Bullhead City meet held at Mohave High School. The Hawks were led by co-captains Sheriece Dedmon and Reilly Hartigan. The two earned this distinction by participating in track for three consecutive years. Dedmon is the younger sister of former River Valley High School track and football star Steve Dedmon. "Reilly and Sheriece have been awesome this season," stated veteran track coach John Warren. "They both have excellent work ethics and great attitudes. They set an excellent example for the younger kids." Both athletes earned numerous awards in the shot put and discus throw. "Sheriece will be an excellent student-athlete at River Valley High School," said Warren. "She is also an outstanding volleyball and softball player, and the Salutatorian of her graduating class." Hartigan will be back next season for his 8th grade year.
Nicole Parker, an 8th grader also had an excellent season. Mr. Warren said Nicole is the epitome of a student athlete. "Nicole is a wonderful human being. She was a pleasure to coach and has an excellent attitude." Nicole is also the Valedictorian of her graduating class. The majority of the team will return next year because of this season's large numbers of underclassmen. Seventh grader Scottie Walker entered his first season of competition and improved as the season progressed. "Scottie did well for a first year guy and now has experience to build on for next season. If he trains year-round, he will be a tough sprinter in the future. Right now he is one of my Topock Ironmen," said Warren. The Topock Ironmen is a monicker which applies to a select few runners that train in Topock Marsh at 6:00AM by running 4 miles and then participating in the regular track practice after school. This years Ironmen include Walker, Robbie Ford, Michelle Stewlow, and Tess Berryman.
7th grader Maxx Sepulveda also ran well for Topock this season while also participating as a lead actor for the drama club. "Maxx has natural talent and works hard. I expect that next year will be a productive one for him," said Coach Warren. "He continued to improve as the season progressed." The lone 6th grade boy on the team, Robbie Ford, also shows future promise as a track athlete. "Robbie is another guy with natural ability. It's up to him to determine if he is going to put that ability to use," stated Warren.
On the girls side things could be very interesting next season. Transferring to Topock School from Lake Havasu is one of the top distance runners in the county, Laci Sweeney. "Laci runs a 6:15 mile and participates in half marathons and her mom is a track coach at Daytona School in Havasu," said Warren. "Laci and Tess are attending a running camp together this July at Northern Arizona University." 7th grader Tess Berryman won the Mile Run May 1st in Lake Havasu in 6:10. "Tess had an excellent year improving her times dramatically in every race, said Warren. "She came in 4th in the mile at the first meet in Bullhead City and won first place by the last race of the season, and there were a couple hundred kids at that meet from Las Vegas alone!" Berryman's time places her as the 2nd fastest girl in school history behind Kaili Hewlett. To increase the excitement level, 1st year runner Michelle Stewlow has created a stir on the running circuit. Stewlow captured 3 ribbons in Lake Havasu in only her second meet of the year in the 400, 800, and 1200 meter runs. Stewlow also ran a leg on the boys 4X100 relay team! "I had Michelle and Tess run a speed mile against each other. I gave Michelle a ten second lead and Tess did not catch her. Michelle can fly!" stated Warren. This threesome may potentially run sub 6 minute miles next season. "There are high school teams that don't have that caliber of runners on their teams," said Warren. "I am really looking for ward to next season. We will train for Junior Olympic competition when school resumes." Seventh grader Jenae Wolf also showed vast improvement this season. "Jenae has turned into a pretty good shot putter. She will be one of the top throwers in the county next season," said Warren. Jenae also did double duty as the lead actress in the drama club.
Another promising athlete is 6th grader Courtney Eldridge, younger sister of River Valley High School track and football star Josh Eldridge. "Courtney would have to be the most improved athlete on the team. She made some tremendous strides this year and will be really tough for the next two years. She throws the shot and discus and runs the 100 and 200 meter dashes and has a great attitude about it all." said Warren. "This has been an exceptional year with an outstanding group of students. These athletes never quit and maintained their grades at a very high level. We oftentimes only hear about how bad kids are but we have some awesome kids in our school. I am very proud of them.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix - One of my priorities as Governor is to bring more federal dollars into our state that will benefit the citizens of Arizona. That's why I created an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) task force in August of last year in order to increase the number of Arizonans claiming the federal tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. The task force was made up of members from the business community, financial institutions, the IRS, the Arizona Department of Revenue, social service agencies and local governments. Their task was to inform Arizonans about the availability of EITC and to provide them with information on how to apply if they qualify.
Thanks to their efforts in informing the public about this resource, more than 337,000 Arizonans have put $633 million back into their family's budgets so far this year by claiming the EITC. This is an increase of more than $37 million, or 6 percent, from last year. The average household EITC refund was $1,700, a significant credit for low-income families.
Please don't hesitate to contact my office at (800) 253-0883 or visit my website at www.governor.state.az.us.

NEW EVENT CENTER
Fort Mojave - The Fort Mojave Indian Tribe reports that the area will have a new 127,000-square-foot event center this fall. The Mojave Crossing Event Center will be constructed at Aztec Road on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation across the river from the Avi Casino. The tribe is paying for construction of the multi-venue building and expects it to hold everything from concerts and rodeos to motocross and circuses. The event center will hold more than 3,700 people, including box seating for 884. Work on the project began in March and is expected to be finished in the fall.

BUSTER DISCUSSED
Kingman - The Mohave County Board of Supervisors at Monday's meeting had an item on the agenda to have the attorney generals office look into allegations made by District 3 Supervisor Buster Johnson. The allegations as stated by County Manager Ron Walker in the meeting were that both of the other supervisors and the county manager asked the former employees bring up sexual harrassment charges for easy money.
"I think that the citizens of Mohave County deserve to know the truth...and charges should be filed and the grand jury could come into play or we need to stop this nonsense and be formally vindicated. If they are not true, then I think if there is no lacking evidence that these could be considered libel, defamation of character, slander, and perhaps it is a deliberate attempt to subject all those who have been charged to public contempt and ridicule."
The board unanimously approved a motion to have the attorney general look into the matter.

STOP NUCLEAR TESTING
Kingman - The Mohave County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a motion joining another county in opposition of nuclear testing. District 3 Supervisor Buster Johnson broke down the details of the motion. "Mr. Chairman I placed this on the agenda, there is $38 million budgeted at the federal level. With the problems we have had in the past, I think we should join in with Kane County (Utah) and offer this resolution to try and stop this possible nuclear testing."

8000 AT MARRIAGE RALLY!
Phoenix - Monday there were more than 8,000 Arizonans at the state Capitol! These ordinary families and individuals, who dropped everything in the midst of a busy work day and school day, stood in 100-degree heat to make their voice heard on the issue of marriage. If you participated or prayed, thank you for your support. We definitely made a statement, as every major media entity in Arizona was there to record it.

    ON THIS DAY...
On this date in 1927, American aviator, Charles Lindberg, took off from New York City in his Ryan monoplane, Spirit of St. Louis, for the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. He flew 3600 miles to Paris in 33 hours.
