Carmack was also slapped with a $16.4 million civil judgment. His statement to the press was "I obviously regret this whole involvement." Hopefully this will set precedence against spam violators in the future and warn them that the people and the law are going to stand up against spam.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix -
On Monday the governor announced she will declare Friday, June 11, 2004 a statewide day of mourning for former President Ronald Reagan, who died Saturday at 93 after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. While state offices will remain open, Gov. Napolitano is encouraging Arizonans to mark Friday as their day to remember America's 40th president. It is the same day as Mr. Reagan's state funeral will be held in Washington, DC. The Governor confirmed today that she plans to attend those services.
"President Reagan's passing has touched us all, and I encourage Arizonans to take time on Friday to pay their respects," Napolitano said.
Last week Gov. Napolitano signed into law a CAP-lobbied bill that eliminates discrimination against home schoolers in admission to state universities. The Center for Arizona Policy supports the biblical notion that parents are ultimately responsible for the education of their children. We therefore support the right of parents to determine whether to delegate academic training to public or private schools or to educate their children at home.

GOOD CITIZEN AWARDS

G.S. -
by Luke Boyer.
At an assembly held at Topock Elementary on May 26, VFW 6306 Auxiliary Youth Chairman Lucille "Luke" Boyer presented a Good Citizen Award to one student in each grade from K-8th.
As Assistant Principal John Warren called the names, Boyer placed the medal and ribbon around the neck and offered congratulations to each student. The awards were given to: Shannon Brown, kindergarten; Joaquin Otero, first grade; Laura Sorenson, second grade; Hunter Villamor, third grade; Kim Spencer and Alicia Cummings, fourth grade; Kiana McCollum fifth grade; Michael Stewlow, sixth grade; Tess Berryman, seventh grade; and Ashley Johnson and Sheriece Dedmon, eighth grade. To solve the dilemma of a tie situation, two awards were given to fourth and eighth grades. The teachers could not make a fair decision between two students. Boyer agreed to a tie and gave simultaneous awards. She said, "It is possible that a class could have more than one exceptional student and when a choice cannot be made between two classmates, they both should be awarded."
LEARNING ABOUT WEIGHT
G.S. -
by Luke Boyer.
A demonstration lesson in weight distribution was learned by Topock Elementary second grade. Teacher Rick Anderson gave each student a 6 by 6 inch sheet of aluminum foil to make a boat. Each boat was put in a large bowl of water and pennies were place in the boat. The object was to see how many pennies could be loaded before the boat sank.
A variety of shapes were tested. One penny at a time was carefully placed in the boats. Pennies placed all in one place sank quickly. The fewest number of pennies to sink a boat was four. Many placed from 35 to 49 pennies. Kevin Cortes carefully placed 79 pennies on his foil barge. It sank on the 80th penny. Kevin won a T-shirt and was allowed to keep all the pennies on his boat.

SCHOOL'S OUT!
KINDERGARTEN GRADS

G.S. -
by Luke Boyer.
Fifteen graduating kindergarten students marched across the stage at Topock Elementary May 26. Dressed in maroon gowns and wearing black mortarboard caps, the excited group posed for pictures. The ceremony included entertainment. The class sang three songs. Since the class visited a farm with horses, they sang "Shoo Fly, Don't Bother Me." Arms across each other's shoulders, they sang "It's A Small World." Teacher Elizabeth Nelson said the class really liked take-away (subtraction). Problems were solved using popcorn. If you had 10 pieces of popcorn and you ate 6 pieces, how many would be left?

WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the comfort of Your Precious Holy Spirit. We thank You that He guides us into all truth. Lord we bow down before You and glorify Your name. You are our everything, our all in all. Where would we be without You? Father we pray that You forgive us our sins and help us forgive those who have sinned against us. Lead us into a more unified body as we seek Your ways. We want to walk in Your ways and not our own because we know the rewards of peace and joy are much greater and Your Name will be glorified.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
