G.S. FIRE DEPT BUSY

G.S. - The Golden Shores Fire Department has been busy the last few days. Along with regular medical calls, they had two calls to the Topock Marina over the weekend. One call involved a collision of two ski-doos. One driver suffered broken ribs and was taken to Colorado River Medical Center. The other driver was OK. Then a young girl suffered heat exhaustion from simply not having enough to drink in the heat. Debbie Muston of G.S. Fire reminds us that we all need to remember not just to carry water with us, but to DRINK IT.
G.S. Fire medical team also responded a few days ago to a heart attack call in G.S. The man had technically expired, but the G.S. medical team was able to bring him back. He has now been released from the hospital and is walking around. What a great medical team we have!!!

EXTREME BLOOD SHORTAGE

TriState - The tristate area is currently experiencing extreme blood shortages. A spokesman for United Blood Services, Dan Perlstein, reports that a number of communities have been contacted to help, but to no avail. They have reached out to 22 of the other UBS Centers throughout the west and to some other major cities within the United States and they all say "We can't help you, we're having problems." Donor apathy is one of the suggested answers for the latest critical blood shortage in the Tri-State area. "Nationally the average is 5-6% participation rate, but here in the Tri-State community area only 2% participate, which is not a good thing." You can help TODAY at the Needles Community Blood Drive, Friday, June 18 at the Rec. Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix - Governor Janet Napolitano and the Arizona/Mexico Commission will this week welcome Sonora, Mexico Governor Eduardo Bours, legislators from Arizona and Sonora and hundreds of attendees from the business and public sectors to the 2004 Summer Plenary Session. The three-day session, which began Thursday 6/17 takes place at the Pointe Hilton South Mountain Resort in Phoenix. The Plenary agenda includes topics such as assessing the affect of the environment on children who live along the international border, the marketing of Arizona-Sonora as a regional economy, and meetings between legislators from both states. Additionally, the session agenda includes meetings on agribusiness, tourism and transportation issues. "We intend to move forward with an action-oriented plan to promote the Arizona-Sonora region, which has incredible potential," said Napolitano. "We have a strong working relationship with Sonora and will continue to work with our border neighbor to explore and take advantage of the possibilities that will provide a positive benefit to all of us." The agenda also includes an update on the progress of the CANAMEX Corridor, the trade route that runs north through Mexico to the United States and Canada.

BUSTER JOHNSON'S TAXROLLBACK

Mohave County - County Supervisor, Buster Johnson, has worked hard for us this year introducing two bills, one in the Senate and the other in the House, to roll back our property taxes and cap the amount of increase that assessed evaluation can be raised in any year. "We have gained tremendous support," says Johnson, "but these groups have scared away the required number to get the bill passed. By not calling for a vote, we did not lose any ground and now have some of the opposition out in the open. There were no surprises on the groups in opposition. I did not have another elected official in our County come forth to support the bill," Johnson continued. "We knew going in that the ones who drink at the trough would not be happy. The Assessor from Maricopa County and The Arizona Tax Research Association assisted with the legislation. Senator Weiers and Legislator Huffman made sure that the bill was heard and gave us their support." For all the information and the latest updates, Buster has setup a special website: Click Here

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ARREST

G.S. - Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Michael Ferrick, 50, of Riverside, California, Wednesday 6/9 evening for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and threatening/domestic violence, misdemeanors. Around 9:00 pm deputies responded to a call in the 12700 block of Coconino Drive and contacted the reporting party who said that Ferrick began arguing with family members and they repeatedly asked him to leave. Ferrick refused to leave and he was attempting to engage family members into a physical fight. Ferrick was placed in the deputies' vehicle since he kept interrupting and cursing while deputies were conducting interviews. Ferrick was screaming and threatening to return and injure everybody. Ferrick was transported and booked into the Mohave County District II Jail without incident.
