THE RAIN AND STORMS CAME

G.S. - Sunday evening we got to see the rains come again to the desert. But when they came, they brought high winds and the damage that goes along with the storms, especially in the lower part of Golden Shores. Trees were blown down, some were uprooted. Roof came loose and small buildings and canopies were blown away. Trash cans and other things left out were carried away by the wind.
Our weatherman, Scott Browne, says that on Sunday evening we got .36 inch of rain and the temperature dropped to 76.6° during the rain. On Monday night/Tuesday morning we got an additional .19 inch of rain and the temperature dropped to 78.5° during the storm. Since the rains the dewpoint has dropped down into the 40's and swamp coolers have been working quite well this week.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT

G.S. - In recent weeks quite a number of real estate signs have been vandalized in Golden Shores, either by hand or by vehicle. Sold signs were being stolen and brocheure boxes were being broken. Earlier this week the culprit was caught in the act. Some people who had property for sale decided to stand by with their video camera. It was worth the wait because the person destroying the real estate signs came and ran down the signs on their property and they were able to video the whole incident. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office was notified and at least one local realty company will pursue prosecution. No names have yet been revealed pending investigation.

BUSTER'S CASE WILL GO TO COURT

Kingman - According to the two Lake Havasu City women who filed sexual harassment allegations against the Mohave County Supervisor, Buster Johnson, the case will go to U.S. District Court in Phoenix. Marisa Tusa seeks $1.5-million and Kelly McMahon seeks $1-million as compensation for their alleged victimization. Johnson has always denied that he harassed anyone. He and his lawyer, Phoenix attorney Rick Cohen, have said the personnel probe was biased, unfair and unprofessional and that its conclusions were dead wrong. The women said they are pleased to move the matter into court, though they're aware the case won't likely be resolved anytime soon.

TWO SEMI TRUCKS COLLIDE

Bullhead City - On Tuesday 7/27 at around 5:30 a.m. the Bullhead City Police Department investigated a traffic collision on Highway 68 at approximately milepost 3. A tractor-trailer, carrying approximately 40,000 pounds of meat, was westbound on Highway 68 when Jose Mendez 28 of Phoenix reportedly fell asleep. The rig struck the rear of another tractor-trailer that was carrying water valves. Approximately 50 feet of guardrail was damaged before the rig went over a 50-foot embankment. The driver was transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released. The second driver, Mark Clines 40 of Alabama, was able to control his rig and come to a stop without further damage. Mendez was issued a citation for failure to control.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix - Last night I had the honor of speaking about a topic very important to Arizona and our country- Healthcare. In the midst of a healthcare crisis with skyrocketing prescription costs and millions of uninsured Americans, we face a daunting task to increase access to affordable healthcare. Yet America's health care crisis isn't about statistics. It isn't about politics. It is about people - our families, our neighbors, our friends. Every day, millions of older Americans are forced to buy prescription drugs at prices that are devouring their life savings - or at times choose between paying for prescription drugs, buying groceries, or paying the rent. It's time our seniors can afford to fill their prescriptions at the corner pharmacy and not in another country.
I have been working hard to address the issue at home. My very first Executive Order created a prescription drug discount program. This year, we've eliminated the sign-up charge - and implemented the new, free and simple prescription drug discount card, the Arizona CoppeRxSM Card, available to any Medicare-eligible Arizonan. This nationally recognized program gives Medicare-eligible residents a simple way to get substantial discounts on spiraling prescription drug prices. The card is honored at over 500 pharmacies throughout Arizona and uses the buying power of seniors to save 15-55% on brand name and generic drugs, an average of $12.50 per prescription. To date tens of thousands of Arizonans have already used this card, saving more than $3.8 million in prescription costs over the past year.
Please don't hesitate to contact my office at (800) 253-0883 or visit my website at www.governor.state.az.us.

KYL WANTS REIMBURSEMENT

Phoenix - U.S. Senator Jon Kyl announced last Thursday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will provide Arizona hospitals with $42-million to help compensate for the costs of providing federally-mandated emergency medical services to illegal aliens. It is the third highest level of funding, behind only California and Texas. The reimbursement funding was made available by a Kyl-authored provision in the Medicare reform bill to provide a total of $1-billion to reimburse states for the costs of providing federally mandated, yet unfunded, emergency medical care to illegal aliens.

DAUGHTER BURGLARIZES PARENTS HOME

Bullhead City - On Wednesday 7/28 at around 9:40a.m. Bullhead City Police Officers investigated a residential burglary at 1460 Williams Way. At approximately 2:30 p.m. Officers located the suspect at 1222 Onyx Lane and recovered some of the missing property.
The owners of the residence are on vacation, however, their son indicated that someone had been inside of the residence and numerous items of value were missing. The owners stated that they believed their daughter, Suspect Michelle Barker, may have forcibly entered the residence and removed the property. Included in the missing property were numerous weapons, U.S. Savings Bonds, rare coins, and a gold Krugerrand.
A fingerprint lifted off of a window, the point of entry, was positively identified the print belonging to Barker. When officers arrived at the Onyx address, they were told the suspect had just “bolted” out the back but the officers were watching the rear exit. The officers entered and located suspect Barker hiding in the master bathroom. Consent to search the residence was obtained and several items reported missing were located.
Officers also noticed that the electrical meter box had been “jumped” with metal pieces apparently after the electricity had been turned off and MEC was asked to respond to remove the dangerous pieces of metal.
Numerous items were recovered, but some guns and old coins are still missing. Although Barker, 27, was arrested, BHCPD request that if you have any information about any of the missing property, please call 763-1999.

MyDoom VIRUS IS YOUR FAULT

Internet - If you've been infected with one of these things you have only yourself to blame. Contrary to too much conventional wisdom, every version of Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express for many years blocks the receipt of executable attachments, which means blocking virtually all copies of all of these worms. They also block programmatic access to the address book, so worms can't use them to propagate to all your pals. If you've been infected you are either not getting your updates from Microsoft or you are not running antivirus software. If you are infected you ran a strange executable file that probably came to you from a stranger. In this day and age? How could you do that?
