HAPPY LABOR DAY!
BOAT RE-CATCHES FIRE
Topock -
Some people were attempting to do some clean-up work on the burned boats parked in the lot on the south side of the road at the Topock Marina when one of the boat decks rekindled. The Golden Shores Fire Department responded in numbers at around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday 9/2 and the fire was quickly extenguished.
LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPECTS BUSY LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Mohave County -
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Public Safety and Police Departments will be hitting the streets this holiday weekend in a special saturation patrol details. The officers will be focusing on DUI's, underage drinking, speeding, seatbelt violations and child safety restraints. The goal is prevention and not arrest.
Impaired driving is a crime. As a community we all support law enforcement efforts to protect us from theft, burglary, assault, and terrorism. Yet many otherwise law-abiding citizens continue to view impaired driving merely as a traffic offense. Don't be fooled - You Drink & Drive - You Lose.

TWO LADIES VERY SICK
G.S. -
Two well known local ladies ended up in the hospital this week. First was Lucille "Luke" Boyer, publicity chairman for the local VFW Post 6306 and writer and contributor to this paper. After being in Cincinnati, August 14-20th and being honored with national awards by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she returned home reportedly dehydrated and required major surgery. At one point it was feared that Luke might not make it thru the night. Luke is still at Needles Hospital and is reportedly doing better and recovering at the time of this article.
The other one is Barbara Lee Bivins, owner of Small World of Beauty. Barbara was taken to Needles in fear of a heart attack. After being there for a while, they determined that she had had a stroke. Barbara is reported to be back at home resting and recovering.

NO MORE RUNNING FROM THE LAW
Bullhead City -
Suspect Jason Cushman's days of running from the law ended Monday night in Bullhead City as US Marshalls, Anaheim, CA. police and Bullhead City police caught the elusive fugitive. Bullhead City police officer Robin Holstrom assisted U.S. Marshalls in bringing down a wanted fugitive late Monday night. According to Bullhead City police spokesman Carrie Cotter, Marshalls were in Bullhead specifically searching for 27 year-old Jason Cushman who was wanted on numerous felony warrants out of Ventura County, CA., Orange County CA. and Fallon, NV.
Cushman was wanted on many charges including: distribution of Methamphetamine, grand theft auto, burglary, and felony possession of a firearm. 20 warrants out of Nevada include among other things: fraud and burglary. Cushman was described as an armed and dangerous criminal with strong ties to the notorious prison gang the “Nazi Low Riders. Bail for Cushman will be set for at least $2.9 million.
FOGGING BEGINS SOON
G.S. -
Fogging did not begin as expected in the area Monday night.
Clarke Mosquito Control, the company hired by Mohave County to handle the spraying of insecticide, was unable to get started as winds were reported at 12-15 mph in the late evening and early morning hours, and spraying is prohibited when winds exceed 12 mph. The fogging of the area is scheduled to continue as long as the winds remain calm. It is unknown just when Golden Shores will be sprayed.
Concerned and curious citizens can call the Public Health Department's hotline at 1-800-858-7378 or the information will also be posted on the website at www.HealthELinks.com.
WOMEN'S CLUB RUMMAGE SALE
G.S. -
The Women's Club Rummage Sale will take place next Friday and Saturday, September 10-11 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As printed last week, the president of the Women's Club, Pat Colloran, was sued last week for allegedly not paying someone she had recruited to help with her personal yard sale, This editor wishes to make it clear that the lawsuit did not mention the Golden Shores Women's Club and we apologize if there was any misunderstanding. The suit only alleged that Colloran offered to pay a member of the Women's Club to help with her personal yard sale, then refused to do so.
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE
G.S. -
If you are a registered voter, Tuesday is voting day in Golden Shores at the Civic Center from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix -
Next week marks the three-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Now, the time has come to establish a permanent tribute to that day's victims, and heroes. The Governor's 9-11 Memorial Commission will design and construct a monument to honor those who died and to those who rallied to the cause of rescue and recovery. I have challenged them to create a memorial that reflects the impact the tragedy had on Arizona.
Yesterday I kicked off a statewide fundraiser for this memorial. To assist with this effort, please bring old cell phones to any Bank of America location in Arizona, or one of many state government offices.
To learn more about this memorial drive, make a monetary donation, or locate the cell phone drop-off point nearest you, visit www.az911memorial.com.
Please don't hesitate to contact my office at (800) 253-0883 or visit my website at www.governor.state.az.us.

HOUSE FIRE IN LHC
Lake Havasu City -
It is believed a clothes dryer could have been the cause of a structure fire that left four people homeless on Wednesday 9/1. Fire companies worked through opressive heat, smoke and flames to control a house fire before it spread to surrounding structures. A fire chief said that the carport area did collapse but were able to save the interior of the structure. Palm trees next to the house also caught fire, but it did not spread to the neighboring units in the complex, or any structures near the apartment. All the residents of the home got out and no injuries were reported.

CONCERNED ABOUT THE G.S. CIVIC ASSOCIATION
By a Concerned G.S. Resident -
I am questioning why we should pay good money for membership in the Civic Association? What is our money being used for? They average around $7,000 in checking and around $8,000 in the savings account.
GUESS WHAT?!? They are discontinuing the monthly dinners at the Center this year. The Civic Association is now offering little for our enjoyment. We have looked forward to these dinners, eating and fellowship with each other, but no more. I hear they have even talked about discontinuing the monthly breakfast as well.
What next?
Other senior centers offer different activities including breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, ping-pong, swimming, etc. So what is going to happen to our Civic Association? Are they going to shut it down? The Civic Association charges hardly anything for membership. Why don't they raise the membership fees and put in a pool and some pool tables and a concession counter?
I heard there is no one who wants to cook at the Center anymore. Is there only one cook in Golden Shores? They have raised the prices, so can't they afford to pay a cook? I think we ALL need to show up at the next meeting on the 8th and find out what's going on.

TOPOCK SCHOOL TAX CREDITS
G.S. -
Arizona is fortunate to offer a tax credit on state taxes. Any taxpayer may contribute up to $200.00 per individual or $250.00 per couple to any fee-required extra curricular activity offered at the school. This is a direct credit, not a deduction. That means it is subtracted from taxes you owe and is fully refunded for up to $250.00. For example, if you owe $400.00 for the year in Arizona state income taxes and give $250.00 to a school, you would only owe $150.00 for the tax year. It literally costs you nothing to give the $250.00. It comes back to you as a credit, refund, or reduction.
We urge you to help share this message with all Arizona tax payers, your friends, neighbors and relatives. Any resident of Arizona may take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to help the students of Topock.
For assistance or questions, please call 768-3344.
Sincerely,
Topock Elementary Governing Board & Administration

WEEKLY FUNNY
A man in Amarillo, Texas decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco at the Golden Gate bridge.
Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and notes. He spotted a Golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued by a sign which read: "$10,000 a minute." Seeking out the Pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The Pastor explained that the Golden phone was, in fact, a direct line to Heaven and if he paid the price he could talk directly to God. The man thanked the Pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Washington, Montana, Golden, Colorado, Utah and all around the country, he found more Golden phones with the same sign and got the same answer from each Pastor.
Finally, he arrived in Golden Shores, Arizona. Upon entering a church in Golden Shores, behold, he saw the usual Golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read: "Calls:
35 cents." Fascinated, he asked to talk to the Pastor.
"Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this Golden telephone. I have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but, in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads 35 cents. Why?"
The Pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in Golden Shores, Arizona now... It's a local call."

WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
We lift up our hearts to You asking You to search them carefully. Clean them up, clean them out, heal the scars and wounds You see there, make them hearts that can love with Your kind of love. Let us become the people You can trust to take Your love and share it with others who hurt like we have hurt. Give us compassion on others that we lack now. Look down on us in Your mercy and help us to be merciful too in Jesus name. Let us glorify you.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
If you believe this prayer, please continue...
If you are reading the printed version and this is your first time to pray this or similar prayer, please contact or attend your local church.
