Kingman officers found the suspect on Karen Ave, Loren Dean Hasthepipe, 26, laying on the living room floor of the residence with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Hasthepipe was banging loudly on the front door of the residence when the male occupant answered the door armed with a pistol. When Hasthepipe grabbed the man's neck he discharged his weapon. CAUTION - PHONE SCAM

Mohave County - If it sounds too good to be true, it might be another phone scam. MCSO is warning area residents of a caller with a credit card offer who has fleeced a number of locals already. The caller offers a card with a $250 limit, and a free gift with a value of $500. To open the account, they ask for the victim's bank account number and social security number. The caller claims that the company behind the credit card offer is based out of St. George, Utah. The incident is believed to be an attempted scam, and the Mohave County Sheriff's Office cautions residents about giving out personal information. If you believe you have been the victim or attempted victim of a fraudulent scheme, contact the sheriff's office.

TIRED OF LIBERAL JUDGES?

Arizona - Are you fed up with activist judges imposing their liberal values on our society? Are you tired of seeing judges overturn laws that reflect our pro-life, pro-marriage values? Are you tired of being expected to vote on judges - and the list seems a mile long -- with NO IDEA and NO INFORMATION about how these judges rule and what they stand for?

I want to encourage you to visit our website at www.nobadjudges.com to find out what YOU can do in this election to send a message to liberal activist judges! Center for Arizona Policy.

VOTER REGISTRATION VIA INTERNET

Phoenix - Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer says that Arizona’s Internet registration system seems to be the reason more Arizonans have registered to vote. According to a statement issued by the Secretary of State’s office, the online registration system, known as EZ Voter, has been used by approximately 30 percent of the individuals registering to vote over the past two years. “Clearly our outreach efforts are making a big difference, especially when it comes to Internet voter registration” said Secretary Brewer. Arizona is the only state in the country with such a large online system that specifically allows citizens to register to vote over the Internet.

WATER SETTLEMENT IN WASHINGTON

Washington, D.C. - After 15 years of work, the Senate approved the Arizona Water Settlement Act. With the final passage of the Arizona Water Settlement Act, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ), who co-sponsored the bill with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), is looking at the end of years of hard work that brought together dozens of different groups. According to a statement from Kyl's office, the legislation will allow the U.S. and Arizona to settle repayments that are still outstanding for construction of the Central Arizona Project as well as allow Indian tribes to actually use the water rights they own. Kyl said in the statement that "Looking ahead, this law could ultimately be nearly as important to Arizona's future as was the authorization of the Central Arizona Project itself."

PETRIFIED FORREST WILL EXPAND

Washington, D.C. - The Petrified Forest will expand by an additional 120,000 acres a senate bill that passed last week. Co-sponsored by Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) the bill hopes to reduce theft of the wood and fossils, cut down on vandalism to petroglyph sites and prevent further environmental degradation of the land by mineral exploration. Senator Kyl's office said the 120,000 acres on new protected land would be “checker boarded” between federal, state and private lands. Final approval on the bill is expected by the House of Representatives.

BUSH PRAYS FOR US
by Yancey Sexton - Now that the debates are history, it seems that President Bush is still the one that holds on to his religious convictions and says he prays for his family and his country. Bush also continues to oppose embrionic cell research while Kerry is in favor. Bush continues to favor marriage between a man and a woman while Kerry doesn't seem to care. Bush is still against partial birth abortion while Kerry doesn't care. Yet the polls say Kerry won the debates. Does America no longer care about the moral values in the Unites States? I have not said anything about politics in the past, but I am the owner and editor of this paper and I feel I have the right to voice my opinion. I have always claimed to be a democrat, but the message in this election seems to be clear. I will not vote for a man whom it seems should be on trial for treason and murder instead of running for president.
I will print any reasonal comment to this article of opinion.

FIRES AND WARMING FIRES

G.S. - Debbie Muston of the Golden Shores Fire Department said that you must get a burn permit for warming fires as well as any other fires. There is no charge for burn permits, but they need to know when you are having a fire so that when someone sees it and calls in they don't have to treat it as an emergency. Please call the fire department at 768-4546 for further information.

BREAST CANCER PREVENTION TIP

  - Diet and nutrition can affect your risk of breast cancer, especially if you have a family history of the disease. Try incorporating the following into your diet and life:
Keep your fat content low. Below 25 percent of your daily calories is ideal. Avoid animal fats, polyunsaturates (many vegetable oils) and hydrogenated oils (margarines and vegetable shortenings) - all can increase cancer risks.
Use healthy fats: monounsaturates such as olive oil, freshly-ground flaxseed and oily fish such as salmon and sardines (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids) may reduce your risk of breast cancer.
Include soy products in your diet. Soy foods contain many cancer protective substances, including isoflavones. Try to eat one to two servings of soy-based foods a day.
Avoid alcohol. Alcohol consumption, even in modest amounts, is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Minimize your consumption of ordinary meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products. Replace with organic, hormone-free versions, or cut way down on animal foods.
Eat more fruits and vegetables! They contain many different cancer-protective phytochemicals.
