LONG BEACH MAN ARRESTED

G.S. - At around 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning 10/21, Mohave County Sheriff's deputies responded to a trespasser in the 12900 block of Oatman Highway 66. Deputies observed a male subject, identified as Brett Joseph Dimario, 34, of Long Beach, CA, sleeping on a table. A search of Dimario revealed a glass pipe which is considered possession of drug paraphernalia, a felony. Dimario was arrested and taken into custody, transported and booked into the Mohave County jail without incident.

WOMEN'S CLUB PRESIDENT WINS SUIT

G.S. - On August 23, 2004, a local lady, Marg Knibb, filed a law suit against Pat Colloran, president of the Women's Club. The suit alleged that Mrs. Colloran owed Ms. Knibb $120. for helping with her personal yard sale. Knibb is Colloran's next door neighbor. The case was heard in Havasu Justice Court on October 27th. After hearing statements from both parties and their witnesses, the judge ruled that Ms. Knibb had not provided evidence to substantiate her claim and found in favor of Mrs. Colloran.

BIKERS LAND AT VFW

G.S. - Last Saturday 10/23 you might have wondered what was going on at the VFW. Over 200 bikers stopped at the VFW and the place was packed out for over 2 hours. This was the 2nd annual charity run for children's charities sponsored by Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino. According to Jim Roden at the VFW, the proceeds will go to:
Kingman Police - Shop-with-a-cop
Mohave Shrines - Clothe-a-Child
Bobcat Uniforms - Scholarship Fund
Roden said they plan to continue this as an annual event.

W.I.N. IS BACK...

G.S. - The Wandering Individuals Network is back in Golden Shores for their annual visit. Although they said there are not quite as many here this year as before. Some of the members headed to the east coast on another excursion while the regulars came back to Golden Shores. "But we still spend money in the community" is what some of them said as they are for looking around for activities while the weather is bad. They also said they might just go to one of the local establishments for their annual Halloween party rather than renting the Civic Center building. Due to the rain, their activities on the river have been somewhat limited, but they are a canoeing and kayaking bunch and not much will keep them away from the water for long. In past surveys they had reported spending an average of over $2000 per day in the local community, so we welcome them to come back every year.

NOTICE: RE - HALLOWEEN

G.S. - The Golden Shores Fire Department is not doing Halloween this year as they have done in years past. Children are invited to visit the VFW's Haunted House. All parents and children are free to take their children to any home in town that wishes to participate. Normally if a house is lighted on Halloween, they are willing to participate. Please do not send your children out without adult supervision.

RACE HEATS UP FOR SCHOOL BOARD

Mohave County - G.S. - The election race for the Topock School Board is heating up between Mike McDonald and Julia Vasquez. It seems a number of people are anxious to voice their opinions and feelings toward each candidate. Some questions have come up about legal campaign issues and could possibly disqualify one of the candidates. They have rules to go by and they must abide by them. It seems some opinions have been expressed and published that are not exactly true and it appears that it is going to be up to you, the voter, to find out the "real issues" to determine which one to vote for.

ELECTION TUESDAY NOVEMBER 2nd

G.S. - The presidential race, along with many others running for various offices at all levels of government, is likely to be one that we will not soon forget. The issues of the war in Iraq, same sex marriage, abortion, and, of course, taxes seem to be the main topics of concern for voters this year. CNN is claiming to have a new system for reporting election results that is better than anything we've seen before.
It is interesting that election day is only 2 days after Halloween and many journalists and media publicists are combining Halloween with the election in their cartoons and description of the candidates. It should be fun and interesting to see how this election turns out for many of the candidates. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it is our freedom AND our duty as Americans to get the information we need about our candidates and show up at the polls and VOTE!

WAL-MART BIG MONEY COMING

Mohave County - Wal-mart has been negotiating for several months for space for a huge distribution center in Mohave County. On Wednesday 10/27 Wal-mart announced they will be putting a 800,000 square foot distribution center somewhere on the I-40 commercial corridor. This new facility will provide an additional 500 new jobs with competitive benefits and wages. Mohave County is not having to give up any incentives to get Wal-mart to come here, so it is costing the taxpayers nothing and it is a no-polution industry. The center is expected to be open by 2007.

WEATHER

G.S. - The Sacramento Wash has been running rather briskly for the second time in two weeks. Last week we had almost an inch of rain in Golden Shores and surrounding area. Then this week we have had an additional rainfall of just over an inch. So we have had close to 2 inches of rain in just over a week. The reservoirs, both above ground and underground, need the water. We are not accustomed to this much rain in this area. The plants need the water, but we may see some undesirable plants come up. Maybe it's worth the effort. Summer is definitely gone for 2004. Fireplaces have been burning around town. This weekend and the next few days are expected to be clear and mild. We should have our monthly weather report from Scott Browne in next week's issue.

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix - Over the past year, we’ve come a long way toward making voluntary full-day kindergarten a reality for students across Arizona. This fall, more than 130 schools received full-day kindergarten funding, which benefits nearly 10,000 children. The program has begun with schools where at least 90 percent of the students are enrolled in free and reduced lunch programs. Staffs from these schools, in addition to community, business and legislative leaders, are invited to participate in Arizona’s first annual Full-Day Kindergarten Summit in Tucson this Friday. I will also convene summits in Flagstaff and Phoenix later this fall.
Education experts from around the state will focus on developing strategies to raise student achievement and measure accountability. Our goal is to help summit participants gain the vital tools they need to prepare students for first grade and beyond. My office will disseminate these findings to schools across Arizona to ensure that all our children receive the best education possible.
Please don't hesitate to contact my office at (800) 253-0883 or visit my website at www.governor.state.az.us.

FLU SHOTS ARE COMING!

G.S. - Debbie Muston of the Golden Shores Fire Department issued a statement today that flu shots are coming to Golden Shores on Tuesday, November 2nd, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the vaccine is gone. However, there is a catch to it -- You must be at least 65 years old, or if under 65 with a high risk medical condition the nurse will screen you for elegibility. The cost of the flu shots is becoming like gasoline, or worse. The price this year for a flu shot is $21 and a pneumonia shot is $32. If you have a Medicare Card, it's FREE. All residents must bring proof of residence to receive a vaccine.

REALTY COMPANIES JOIN FORCES

G.S. - The McCulloch Realty office that just recently opened here in Golden Shores and just put up new signs is now going to have to change the signs according to Pat Baer, local real estate agent. McCulloch Realty and Coldwell Banker The Judd Group of Lake Havasu City have merged. The new company name will be Coldwell Banker McCulloch Judd Realty and will initially have offices in Lake Havasu City, Prescott, Parker, Kingman and Golden Shores.

BURGERS FOR VET'S MEMORIAL

G.S. - Golden Shores Community Park was a busy place Sat. Oct. 23. A Burger-in-the-Park was held to raise funds for the Mohave Desert Veterans Memorial. At times there was a long line waiting for burgers. The event raised $620. VFW 6306 and auxiliaries thank all who attended this event. Volunteers Al Fuller and Ken Barber put up the shade canopies. The busy cooks were Merrill La France and Jim Sylvester with assistants Shelley Rubens and Jake Jacobs

TOPOCK SCHOOL

G.S. - The News From Mr. Agenbroad
"BJ and I (Lee) interviewed Mr. A in his office. We wanted to know more about what he likes. I asked him, 'What's your favorite movie?' .....MMMMMMM..... he said, 'Last of the Mohicans!' Next I said, 'That's a cool computer. I wish I had one like it." It has a flat screen, a tubular middle, and a cool keyboard. He said, 'Thanks, Lee!' We also found out his favorite TV show was 'Mash' and his favorite animal is a llama. That was surprising! Finally, he also told us his best flower is a wild rose. When we left we told him we had a great time with him..."
Mr. Agenbroad assured Golden Shores eXtra that we will be seeing more articles more often in the weekly news.

BEAN BLOWOUT

G.S. - The Golden Shores Friends of the Library is having their annual Bean Blowout TODAY Friday 10/29 at the Community Center. There will be lots of different kinds of beans plus deserts, entertainment, prizes and lots of fun.

NEW HOUSING COMING TO G.S.

G.S. - Topock Village Estates is a new 200-building site planned residential community located just south of Golden Shores. The new development will be walled with security gates, underground utilities, and sewer and natural gas services. Topock Village boasts close proximity to both boating and desert recreations. Construction was suppose to begin in October, but we haven't seen any activity yet.
ALSO, the 72 acres next to Catfish Paradise, formerly known as the RV park property, has been sold to another developer who plans to put another 200 homes there. Then yet another developer has supposedly purchased another property that he is going to develop as an RV park.
There is a good chance that Golden Shores is about where Bullhead City was about 30 years ago and we're going to see some tremendous growth here in the next few years.

    WEEKLY PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, Sometimes when emotions and feelings get us down, when the world seems to be closing in and there seems no hope and all appears useless, help us to recall Your Words, 'All things are possible to them that beleive'. We believe Lord, help our unbelief. May your Grace always be enough for us, when we are afraid allow us the peace to make it one more day. Fill our hearts with gladness so we can overcome the depression that trys to overtake us.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
If you believe this prayer, please continue...
If you are reading the printed version and this is your first time to pray this or similar prayer, please contact or attend your local church.
