TWO MISSIONS SAME DAY FOR CAP
Lake Havasu City -
Members of Lake Havasu City Civil Air Patrol Squadron 501 were busy on Wednesday 11/17 with the search for an aircraft that was confirmed to have gone down on the California side of the river. Then they were called off that search to search for another missing plane in Yavapai County.
According to Maj. George Molitor commander of the Civil Air Patrol squadron in Lake Havasu City, Arizona Civil Air Patrol had discovered the wreckage of a Cessna 337 Skymaster between Williams and Flagstaff late Wednesday morning.
The crews located a wreckage and no more is known at this time. It is believed that there were three people on-board, but none are believed to have survived.
PLANE CRASH NEAR ARIZONA LINE
Pacoima, CA -
Only one day after a search was initiated for a plane that departed El Monte, Calif. Saturday en-route for Lake Havasu City a wreckage has been found. According to Capt. Brian Stover mission information officer for Civil Air Patrol, the search discovered the wreckage of the missing Beechcraft Bonanza west of the Colorado River in the vicinity of the Lake Havasu airport and was confirmed a while later. The two people on-board were killed in the crash. No information was available as to what caused the plane to go down and no identities have been released.
Civil Air Patrol has turned the mission over to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
FINAL BODY FOUND
Lake Havasu -
The body of a California man missing and presumed dead since the Labor Day 9/6 multiple fatality boating accident on the Colorado River was recovered from Lake Havasu Tuesday afternoon.
The body was positively identified as Dale Baldwin, 34, Huntington Beach, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office.
Baldwin's body was recovered some 14 miles from the site of the crash that claimed the lives of three other adults. Baldwin and the other victims were ejected when the boat driven by Scott Eickhoff, 31, Anaheim Hills, struck a cement column supporting the railroad bridge spanning the river between Arizona and California just outside Needles.
Eickhoff was arrested for manslaughter and boating under the influence of alcohol after the accident. The Sheriff's office said Eickhoff's boating party left a bar near Topock about 90 minutes before the deadly crash at 3:30 a.m.

MOTORCYCLE SLIPS AT SACRAMENTO WASH
Topock -
Sunday afternoon 11/14 Mohave County Sheriff's deputies and Golden Shores Fire Department responded to a motorcycle accident at the Sacramento Wash. According to a fire department spokesman, a northbound cyclist apparently hit the wet sand along the side of the road at the sharp curve at the wash and it threw him and his passenger from the bike. The two were transported to Colorado River Medical Center for minor injuries. No names are available. A friend arrived with his pickup truck and, with the help of some onlookers, loaded the Harley Davidson which did not appear to be damaged.

SENIORS NEED NEW SUP COVERAGE
Mohave County -
Healthnet has announced they will be ending their supplemental PPO coverage and some Mohave County seniors on Medicare will be looking for new supplemental coverage. Healthnet Arizona spokesperson Susan McCleod said current enrollees have all benefits intact until midnight December 31.
John Gilbert, owner of John Gilbert Insurance Agency said, “Under federal law when people on a Medicare plus choice plan are involuntarily disenrolled they have a 63-day right to open enrollment.” This gives them the right to purchase a new supplement without answering any medical questions or having a waiting period. Judy Thomas owner of Judy Thomas Insurance Agency said she is willing to answer any questions you might have about your coverage for free. Her phone number is 758-5353.
NEW SECURITY AT MEXICAN BORDER
U.S. Customs -
Gateways from Mexico at Laredo, Texas and Douglas, Arizona have been chosen to begin testing the Homeland Security Department's increased border security technology on Monday.
The technology, which calls for fingerprinting, photographing and running checks on suspicious visitors, has been in place at U.S. airports and seaports since January 5, but officials want to pinpoint any glitches before the program extends to the nation's 50 busiest land crossings by year's end.
"We always test first," said Anna Hinken, program outreach manager.
Digital fingerscans and photos are matched with databases to determine if visitors might be wanted for immigration problems and crimes or are on lists barring them from entering the country because of suspected terrorist ties.
The information will be stored indefinitely in a national database, but Homeland Security officials promised its use would be restricted to ensure privacy. By the end of 2005, the United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology program, or US-VISIT, is scheduled to be used at all 165 land border crossings.
Homeland Security is spending $340 million implementing inkless fingerprinting machines, digital cameras and computer equipment. Another $340 million has been allocated for 2005.
WATER RELEASE FROM GRAND CANYON
Phoenix -
A possible experimental water release at the Glen Canyon Dam this Saturday 11/20 has Arizona Game and Fish Department officials warning boaters and anglers to expect higher than normal water levels and currents.
The purpose of the test is the attempted redistribution of sediment at the bottom of the Colorado River.
The experiment will determine whether they can take the sand and sediment, stir it up, and deposit it up higher onto beaches where it will be conserved for a longer period of time.
The flow will be heaviest from 11/20 thru 11/24 with four times the normal flow coming from the dam.

DEPUTIES ARE COMING BACK
G.S. -
Assistant principal of Topock School, John Warren, told GSX today that he had talked to Mohave County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim McCabe. Warren said McCabe told him, "You asked for it and you are going to get it." McCabe told Warren that since the Civic meeting last week he has done some checking and is now able to put deputies in Golden Shores, especially around Topock School, in the mornings, the afternoons, and off and on thru the nights. Warren told GSX that we will be seeing a lot of increased MCSO activity in Golden Shores and hopes that some of the crime can be curtailed.
FROM THE GOVERNOR

Phoenix -
Beginning this week, almost 90,000 first grade students across Arizona will receive a gift from the State of Arizona – a book of their own. For many of these children, it will be their first book; in some cases, it will be the family’s only book. This is the second year of my first grade book program. We know that children who learn to read early learn better – language skills develop faster, vocabulary grows faster. Unfortunately, too many children in Arizona begin school without ever owning a book of their own. For that reason, we owe a great deal of gratitude to the generous sponsorship of Phelps Dodge and Southwest Gas for providing the funding to ensure Arizona’s first graders have a chance to develop this love of reading. I hope this book project becomes an annual tradition in Arizona. I commend the vision and leadership of Arizona’s business community for working with government to promote the values that matter most to our residents.

IT'S GONNA GET COLD
G.S. -
The rains came and brought us some badly needed water and cooled us off, but now it's gonna get cold. Cold here, of course, doesn't mean cold like in the midwest or up north, but if it doesn't get over 60° during the day, it's cold to folks around here. Summer is over and most of us have shut down the air conditioners, but most us haven't run the heat much as yet. This Saturday, the forecasters are saying, it's gonna get cold. They're not saying anymore about rain, but the temps are going to drop to around 40° at night and only near 60° during the day. Wow! - If the temperatures keep dropping we might even see a white Chistmas.

LOCALS PART OF C.E.R.T. DRILL
Mohave Valley -
Local residents participated in a state-wide exercise last Friday at Mohave Valley Junior High School. The drill was part of a dam failure scenario, designed to test the area's emergency resources, both professional and volunteer. Representing Golden Shores Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were Konnie Spiegel, Bobbie Ormiston, Dixie Gibson and Linda Boyer. Members of Mohave Valley, Havasu and Laughlin CERTs, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army played various parts in a simulated shelter operation. With Ormiston as her assistant, Spiegel managed the shelter. Gibson and Boyer, were among the "evacuees" whose homes were about to become flooded.
For anyone interested in coming into the CERT program, there will be training for new members this winter. Call Mike Browning at the Mohave County Emergency Services (928) 757-0910.

WEEKLY FUNNY

WEEKLY QUOTE
Always remember others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself. -- Richard M. Nixon
THANKSGIVING PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this day. We are blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for us and You keep on blessing us. Forgive us this day for everything we have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. We ask now for Your forgiveness.
Help us to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let us make the best of each and every day to clear our minds so that we can hear from You. Let us not whine over things we have no control over. Let us continue to see sin through Your eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when we sin, let us repent, and confess with our mouth our wrongdoing, and receive Your forgiveness.
When this world closes in on us, let us remember the example of Jesus, to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. Continue to bless us that we may be a blessing to others. Keep us strong that we may help the weak. Keep us uplifted that we may have words of encouragement for others. We pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. We pray for those who don't know You intimately. We pray for those that don't believe in You. We pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them, every ear that hears them, and every mouth that confesses them willingly.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
If you are reading the printed version and this is your first time to pray this or similar prayer, please contact or attend your local church.
