A CHRISTMAS TORTOISE?
Phoenix -
Want to give something truly unique this year? The Arizona Department of Game and Fish has the answer. AG&F is offering people the opportunity to sponsor one of Arizona’s most remarkable animals, the desert tortoise. With tortoises regularly living a upwards of a hundred years it is a gift that keeps on giving. People can sponsor a tortoise in the name of a friend or loved one and the money raised will go into funding research into the threatened species.
For more information on how to sponsor a tortoise for the holidays contact Clayton Lutz by calling (602) 789-3504 or log on at http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/desert_tortoise_sponser.shtml.
A M A Z I N G ! ! !
G.S. -
That is what our school's teachers and students are. One day a lady from the school called and asked for my address. She said that some students made cards for me and they wanted to deliver them. Some cards! WOW! The kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade and 5th grade made more than just a few cards, they wrote letters hoping I am better from my surgery, letters telling me they remember me from being at the school, letters telling me I am a good church worker and that I am missed at church. Some drew self pictures and pictures of me getting well.
The teachers then made some of the letters into books. I will cherish each and every one always. My husband said he had never seen anything like this.
Our students and teachers are wonderful! THANKS to everyone and I am getting better everyday. God's Blessings to all this Holiday Season and in the New Year.

SHOPLIFTERS OUT SHOPPING
TriState -
Holiday shoppers are not the only people flocking to the stores this month.
Shoplifters seem to be taking advantage of the holiday crowds and confusion to ply their trade. There have already been a number of incidents at local establishments, including six arrests at Wal-Mart in two days. "Because there’s more shoppers and there’s going to be a lot more people in the store, if you were going to try and shoplift you think that the store help is too busy to notice,” said police Bullhead Police spokesperson Carrie Connor.
She added that the number of arrests would indicate that store personnel are on the lookout for holiday shoplifters. Be sure to keep your cars locked and your merchandise covered out of sight while shopping.

NEW ARIZONA BORDER SCREENING
Southern Arizona -
New screening procedures are in effect at three of the nation’s busiest border crossings in Southern Arizona. Foreign nationals trying to cross into the United States from Mexico at the Nogales, Lukeville or San Luis border crossings may be subject to a fingerprint scan and a digital photo, if selected for a secondary screening according to the US Border Patrol. The Border Patrol said the new procedures should not cause significant delays at the border. The only people from Mexico it will effect are border crossing card holders planning to go beyond the 75-mile border zone or spend more than 30-days in the United States. The biometric information collected by the new procedures will be cross-referenced against the nation’s terror watch list. This technology has been implemented in airports and other ports of entry and has reportedly stopped 300 suspected terrorists from entering the country.
BHC KIDNAPPING QUESTIONED
Bullhead City -
A Bullhead City woman claims she was kidnapped outside a Circle K Saturday night and forced to drive three suspects to Golden Valley before being robbed. Workers at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center called police. Police have questions about the victims claim. First, the victim gave a vague description of her would-be attackers, describing them as two Hispanic males and one Hispanic female. Then she claimed that she walked from Golden Valley to WARMC without asking for help despite a significant amount of traffic and open business along the road. Police are investigating the claim, but have very little evidence. Police are looking for the alleged victim’s car.

ONE THAT GOT AWAY
Bullhead City -
A lengthy pursuit of a suspected car thief by Bullhead City police early Wednesday morning ended with the officers calling off the pursuit for safety reasons. Police said the suspect was driving toward the highway at about 70 mph, so they terminated the pursuit. Police continued searching for the vehicle, with no luck. Police found the car Wednesday morning on Arriba Dr. with the passenger door smashed into an awning pole.
NO POCKET ROCKETS
Bullhead City -
At the top of most teenagers Christmas lists this year you will probably see a new pocket bike. These miniature motorcycles are sweeping the nation, however area authorities want parents and kids alike to understand the laws regarding the cool gift. According to Bullhead City police the pocket bikes might look like miniature versions of street legal motorcycles, but are not. For a motorcycle to be legally driven on a public street it must be registered and insured and since the mini-bikes don’t meet federal standards the Arizona Motor Vehicle Department will not issue a registration. The bikes may only be driven on private property with the owner’s permission.
NOVEMBER WEATHER SUMMARY
G.S. -
BRRRrrr! The low temperature of the month was 32.8°F which occurred on the 30th. On the 6th the high temperature of the month was recorded at 79.6°F. The average low and high were 47.2°F and 66.4°F, the lowest November average since 2000. The northern winds are here and they clashed with southern flows of moisture causing rain to fall on the 7th with .7 inch, on the 8th .65 inch, and on the 21st .315 inch. The total is 1.08 inches for November. Since July we have had a total of 5.208 inches of rain! This ground saturation again caused the washes to flood during the rainfall.
WEATHER FACT: When the winter sun hangs low behind ice clouds, a bright refracted light known as parhelion, or son dog, may appear. Parhelions are usually red on one side, yellow in the center and blue on the side opposite the sun. Like the sun dog, the solar pillar occurs at sunrise or sunset amid cirros or cirrostratus clouds. Crystals in the clouds float horizontally reflecting a bright beam of light up from the horizon.

WEEKLY FUNNY

WEEKLY QUOTE
Honesty pays, but it doesn't seem to pay enough to suit some people. -- F. M. Hubbard
WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
Like David we often feel 'LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me, many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for her/him in God. But thou, O LORD art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of mine head. I cry unto You with my voice and You hear me out of Your Holy hill!' Lord I give thanks that You do hear us, when no one else can or will You do.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
